Not as impressive as the other early vintages I’ve been lucky enough to taste. Orange marmalade, franzipan, butterscotch, vanilla, length for days and some grapefruit as it opens up

Gave it a hour decant, as with recently tried 03, 04, and 05 vintages which required it. Descriptors are a little restrained and muted in comparison. As per reviewer’s above note, orange, marmalade, vanilla and butterscotch. Decent length, but the least favourite of the older vintages so far.

Coravin’d straight to glass. Quite golden. Just a pretty, pretty, gentle wine. Soft evolved mouth feel and easy light finish. Gentle melons, stone fruit and white flowers and just a little lime acid on finish. Probably past peak but nothing out of place. Perhaps lacking a little depth but this might have come with more time in the glass. Enjoyable.

Phil's Coravin exploration (Phil's place, Putney, Sydney): From Coravin. medium minus intensity aromas are a little dusty, slight lemon, butter, slightly meaty notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, muted flavours are a little green, a touch of contrary alcohol warmth. Bitter on the finish with a touch of oatmeal.

Quay lunch (Quay): Deep yellow. Butter, toast and white nectarine aromatics and palate, medium bodied with fine acid spine and length. Just the right amount of oak seasoning, any more would have overburdened the wine. Likely not much more to be gained from further cellaring.

What a journey!! It always showed promise from the open but took a good hour or more to truly blossom. Quite evolved yellow/gold in colour it started out taut with clearly present fresh acids. Went through many transitions as it took its time to prove class but got there in the end. Finally presented with nice blend of honey, butterscotch all still wrapped in neat acids. A beautiful wine.

46th TWIGS Dinner (Lena and Su's place): Cork. 13.5% a/v. Tasted blind. Mid yellow colour. Caramel, honey, nuts, pineapple, florals and lanolin. Mid weight palate. Lemon, spicy vanilla oak, honey. Good texture and length. Drink over the next couple of years.

Pretty similar to previous bottle. Drunk over two days. Better on the second. Light gold. Grilled peach, white nectarine, twist of yuzu, and a touch of oak. Some nuttiness too. Lees stirring makes this rich and voluptuous, but the acidity keeps everything in check. Rich and round. Should easily hold for another 5-8 years but drinking well now.

Mount Mary Quintet Vertical (S&N's, Melbourne): Light gold. Muted citrus and stone fruit nose. Restrained but building palate with strong cleansing acidity and well integrated oak. Very good length and finish. Too lean for my preferences, but a good wine nonetheless. Still remarkably youthful - I'd leave these for another few years at least. 91+

Diam. Light gold in colour. Stone fruit, singed toast and a squeeze of lemon. Full bodied and beautifully round on the palate, with a subtle bitterness. This bottle however lacked a little focus and minerality of other vintages.

Fabulous ‘Oz’ Chardy, this had aromas of struck match along with pure white peach fruit and a little cashew and toast from the oak. In the mouth it was rich, textured and unctuous but with good underlying tension and a long chalky/mineral closure.

Very pale straw colour more that you'd mistake for a Sauvignon Blanc. Light, floral nose of elderflower with some unripe banana, rambutan and whisps of smoke. Acidic, mouthwatering and very refreshing palate of unripe bananas and green melon. Very little oak. A hint of "in your head" on the finish but I think I was straining myself. Long aftertaste. A very light wine that reminded me more of an Alsace or a Lower Loire wine. We thought it would reveal its true colours as it warmed up but were disappointed because it just became very flat. Surprising because this is meant to be the "special reserve" version of a highly acclaimed wine. The only possible mitigating factor is that we had flown it up from Melbourne a couple of days earlier.

Well-balanced and certainly approachable, but I suspect I'm drinking it ahead of it's prime. Loads of acidity.
