Has been 2 years since last had this vintage and it was exactly what it needed. Gave it 45 minutes or so in the decanter and it really allowed the cherry/orange/spice notes to come out from the beginning. Lots of flavor in this dark ruby colored wine. It was very smooth. Drinking well now but has plenty of life left in the bottle.

Very pale ruby. This is a controversial style of Pinot Noir, for sure, but I think it is well done in the context of what it is. On the nose this smells sweet, like one is standing in a pastry kitchen, as it presents a mélange of red and black fruit aromas, ranging from fresh red cherries to black cherry jam to dried strawberries and blackberries; behind that there are notes of burnt toast, maple syrup, vanilla and oak spice. Medium to full bodied on the palate with velvety tannins, this is certainly rich and the alcoholic heat is something one cannot miss, but there's ample acidity here - more than I remember on other Sea Smoke Pinot Noirs - that gives this some sense of vitality and balance. This isn't for me, but others will surely swoon for it.

2019 vintage. Nice couple next to us shared this (and the Cristal Champagne) with us at the Mindi Abair concert. Consistently scrumptious SeaSmoke pinot noir with the earthy nose and smooth palate. Still a little young. Shows great promise.

Great choice at an island restaurant with a seafood tasting menu. Drinks well right off the bat. Big,rich cherry fruits, with orange rind and spice.nicely balanced

Drank side by side with 2019 Sea Smoke Ten. Found both to be quite disappointing, with Ten being slightly better of the two due to slightly greater structire and complexity, but both were thin and simple on the mid palate. Both are similar with pomogranite, cherry and raspberry flavors. The Ten has slightly darker fruit profile. Both were quite tight and need 2-3 more years. These both currently drink like a mediocre 2019 Gevrey Village, but quite a bit more expensive than the Gevrey.

Dark ruby, slightly purplish hue. I always liked calling Sea Smoke the Pinot that big Napa Cab drinkers would drink. Pronounced intensity, big black and red fruits, sour and ripe plum, cherries, oak, baking spices. Tannins are a bit much at this stage as well as the extraction. Long finish, med/med+ acid. For my palette, I would need time and age, but otherwise nothing wrong. I can see 91+ with time, but would be around 89 for me right now. Paired with sage butter egg yolk raviolo, which was slightly clashing.
We drank this alongside with 2019 Chapter 24 Vineyards Pinot and the 2019 Sea Smoke Ten. I thought the acid was brighter and more enjoyable on the Sea Smoke's (lifting it up), but the Chapter 24 had the balance that I prefer.

Big, bold, and fruity! Haven’t had a Southing in a long time as have always favored Sea Smokd Ten, but while it was maybe a little early in its bottle life, this was a very enjoyable wine. Opened as a PnP, but it really needs 20-30 minutes to open up. Should continue to evolve and might wait until early 2023 to open another one.

Not my favorite Seasmoke….very light and Burgundian…and not nearly as smooth and flavorful as other vintages
