Dusty but floral nose with decent intensity. Color is fading and this bottle is definitely in a secondary phase of evolution. Tastes old world, Burgundian, subtle and delicious. I love the fruit, compact delicate and in the background of a wine with great textural presence. I think this wine should be in the short term lineup if you have this cellared.

Medium-dark red color, medium transparency. Sweet cherry, tea, raspberry, and sous bois on the nose. Palate shows age-attenuated fruit flavors of cranberry, raspberry, and a hint of cherry with a finish that shows some earth and tea notes. Loved the balance of this at this point. Nothing profound, but very much in harmony. Drink.

This one is getting a little old. Lower acid, fruit is fading some, and when we brought it out from under gas the second day it was not doing very well, kind of had an off note on the finish. The 2006 is showing better now.

This wine was another fine example of Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir. We consumed this over THANKSgiving with an assortment of grub ... which included smoked turkey, ham and other fixings. The wine was well balanced with fruit, earthy and smooth from start to finish.

Dark cranberry red color with medium transparency. Aromas of blackberry, a slightly cheesy character that dissipates with air, cherry, vanilla, and violets. Palate is black fruited with blackberry, pomegranate, vanilla, black cherry, blueberry, and tart plum that carries into a medium to medium-long finish. this is more tightly wound than the 2006 at this point and need coaxing to emerge. Decant if drinking now. Drink or hold.

Dark cranberry red color with limited transparency throughout. Aromas of cranberry, cherry, violets, and spicy rhubarb. Palate has almost crunchy raspberry, cranberry, pomegranate, cherry, and rhubarb elements that lead into a medium finish. Drinking pretty well now, but not yet into the next phase of maturity. Drink or hold.

Not that familiar with Willamette valley Pinot and I expected something pretty lean and acidic. The was fairly lush and rich but balanced with good acidity. There was some earthiness and spice to go with the red and darker fruits. I tend to drink more SLH Pinot and this was different than that style but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

This one was not as strong as expected. Bouquet was very good with all of the Pinot characteristics present. On the palate the fruit got lost amid the spice and mineral notes. This is a good effort but some more recent California offerings have brought more fruit to the table and more balance to the glass.

Medium+ ruby with a garnet rim. Pronounced in intensity nose offering mature sous bois notes wrapped around a core of raspberries and spice. Well blended in oak mostly old. Savoury in palate with refreshing acidity and medium ripe and sophisticated tannnins that balance alcohol and medium full body. Multi layerd, unwrapping complexity. Fairly long. At its best from now and for 4-5 years more perhaps...

6 Pinot Noirs from Different Origins (Le Petit Sommelier Restaurant): Tasted alongside another 5 pinots from various origines, this was WOTN, with Marimar Don Miguel Vineyard 2004 following closely. Unsurprisingly, the 2 Burgundies (Louis Jadot Volnay 2006 and Jean Bouchard Gevvrey-Chambertin La Justice 2005) were the least exciting wines of the bunch. Unlike Marimar, this was at its peak right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if the ranking of the 2 best wines wouldl be reversed in a couple of years. Dark ruby-garnet. Gorgeous nose with raspberries, violets, cherries and scents of coffee. Med+ body, velvety texture, rich fruit, obviously riper and softer compared to Marimar, balancing acidity and long aftertaste. Excellent with beef tagliata.

This is better once it's open for a while. There's a light red, cherry, raspberry flavor that hints at smoke. Still, I'm usually disappointed with American Pinot and this doesn't change that.

Aromas of cherry and spice box. Crisp acidity surrounds a core of cherry and cranberry flavors, with a little oak slickness at the finish. Tannins are still a bit green and harsh, but this is enjoyable now and will surely improve and deepen in the coming years.

Good wine, no surprise except that it was really good, not exceptional. It needs more cellar time, somewhat to my surprise (although it shouldn't be, since most 2005's are presumably still somewhat closed up in 2010). Burgundian, medium bodied, restrained cherry, more strawberry, a little lacking on the nose. Beautiful color.

Bright ruby to garnet in color, brilliant. Perfumed nose of cherry, pepper, orange zest, flowers, and underbrush. On the palate this was a bit restrained at first, but opened to show good elegant fruit with hints of pepper and minerals. The acidity is very good and the tannins are civilised, allowing for a long clean finish.

Dark red color. Aromas of cherry, violets, spice, and rhubarb. On the palate, this shows black cherry, spice, rhubarb, cranberry, and black plum notes. Much darker profiled than the '04, '06, or '07. Seems to have structure to carry it out to a nice plateau of maturity. Serve with heartier fare. Drink or hold.

Aroma: Pommard-type aromas of grass, barnyard, and faint mustard seed with cherry and mocha in the background; after aeration and decanting for 45 minutes, the wine takes on additional black fruit notes
Flavor: Initially has some butter fat and cobbler notes, which are nice; develops into a silky, rich, lush yet acidic expression of Pinot Noir; red cherry, blackberry, and red currant dominate the palate and mid-palate, while the finish retains acidity, tannic structure, and a pleasing mouthfeel
General impression: A nice, complex wine that one can either enjoy casually or make the centerpiece of a meal

Brilliant, clear cherry red color. Nose of licorice, spice, cherries, and some floral notes. On the palate, the licorice is dominant with big tannins carrying a long finish. Notes of cherry, cranberry, and rhubarb also feature. This is on the masculine side from a structure perspective but has many feminine flavor components. This will improve with more time in the bottle. Resample in 12-24 months.

Ordered off the menu at Edenfall (Bradford, MA). Popped and poured in the restaurant, very tight with candied cherry and some spice at first, but opened up nicely over the course of dinner. Opened up to red fruits, earth and spices. Impeccably balanced and marvelous with food. Definitely agree with New World/Old World comments of others - more Old World than Cali, and more New World than Cote de Nuits, and very nicely so.

Tried this over two days as part of the CellarTracker virtual tasting event. Strong alcohol scent at first and a quick swirl in the glass and I was thinking this thing had more legs than the Rockettes at Radio City. This mellowed over time, but was still more pronounced than I would desire. I couldn’t zero in on any individual scent or aromas more specifically than berries. I think this one was closed down and will need to be tried again in a few years. It was pleasant to drink overall, but in that non-specific and non-memorable kind of way.

Aroma initially some barrel toast, fresh uncovered earth and sweet dill. Same flavors with subtle cherry. Not together yet on the palate but improves with air. Medium concentration and developing some grace since I first tried this. Needs time for palate development. Very good with potential for excellent.

Had this during the CT online tasting. All I can say is "WOW". This pinot has it all. A huge, gorgeous nose of earth, dark stewed fruit and hay. The taste is almost as good as the nose, which is saying a lot. IT's vegetal, burgundian in style with just a touch of oak. It's smooth, superbly integrated and a sheer pleasure to drink. The wine was double decanted using a Vinturi. The best US pinot that I have had to date. I think I'll buy some... oh wait... I did.... This was my #1 wine of the flight..... by far.

1st CellarTracker Worldwide Virtual Tasting Event; 8/15/2008-8/18/2008 (London, Singapore, NY, Texas, and all the other great places): Popped and poured. Light clear ruby. On the nose, plums, cherries, spice, forest floor and an unplaceable floral component. On palate, laster beam of acidity runs all the way through to the finish with flavors of ripe cherries, mushroom, aisian spice powder. Tremendous sappiness with almost a candied finish with the bracing acidity. A big surprise for me, this showed way better than I was expecting. At $37 the value is good. An Oregon Pinot that has one foot in Burgundy but still comes off as New World. #2 of 4

Tasted as part of the online CT tasting. Notes from memory - my son has eaten my notes. Did not decant. Opened 2 hours before and poured a glass and then let it breathe. Did have a taste straight out of the bottle - Appearance: Quite dark for a pinot noir - brooding. Crystal clear appearance though. Nose; Alcohol and a big whack of funky farmyard. Taste: Quite powerful at first. Alcohol overwhelmed the rest of the wine.
After 1-2 hours - nose developed but seemed quite crunchy and tannic. Still a lot of alcohol here. There is definately complexity here but it is only peeking through. After 3 hours. Erm, more alcohol - some wood as well. Burnt cherries. I wish I had decanted this wine - I'm not getting any secondary characteristics at the moment. Not much follow through. After 4 hours. Alcohol has subsided and then wine is a little softer - lower tannins but really not as well integrated as I expected. I had this wine a year ago and it was much smoother. I think it may be in a dumb phase. The wine also very young and I think it would have really benefitted from some time in the decanter. Overall I like this wine but it is too young to drink right now. Will buy again but I'll stick in in the cellar. Undoubtedly a good wine but I dont think it is showing that well right now.

1st CellarTracker Worldwide Virtual Tasting Event; 8/15/2008-8/18/2008 (USA, London,Italy, Finland, Singapore, and Elsewhere): When first opend this wine had typical barnyard funk and dark color. After decanting for @ 2 hours, good balance of cherry and earthy flavors and hint of oak with a fuller body then I expected. After three hours the aeration helped tremendously, acidity and tannins created a nice structure, a smoother balance giving it a more classy burgundy character. Nice long lingering finish although something else evolved that I couldn't figure out. Not neccesarily a bad taste just something different. Outstinding wine although I'm still on the fence whether to purchase again @ $45.

Light ruby with a slightly smoked rose color. Tobacco, subtle Asian spices, cherry, marzipan, and oak on a nice round nose of average intensity. Very rich fruit, big body, soft tannins. Really attractive acidity balance and harmony and this will really stick in my mind as what an Oregon PN is all about. I find myself taking large mouthfuls and swishing, nearly gulping it in a way few wines would feel as pleasant. Ending lingers with all it’s parts intact, medium 30sec or so in length. (4+12+17+7) = 90

Drank at home as part of the Cellar Tracker Virtual Community Tasting Event. I did not decant this, but drank it over a leisurely 3 hours or so while watching the olympics and Man Utd vs Newcastle - hence lots of time to take more detailed notes. This wine was rather Jekyll and Hyde-ish, starting out rather mediocre, then really coming into its own after two and a half hours or so in the bottle. It augurs well for aging potential.
As some tasters have noted, this was extremely dark at the core, very un-pinot like. Extremely attractive nose from the very first pour, somewhat a cross between Burg and new world pinot, with sweet ripe cherries and blackcurrant nuances, and pretty flowery scents riding along a bed of earth and a touch of dry wood. Dense aromas, but I also got the sense of clean and cool fruit - almost like a new world Chambolle. There was a touch of glycerin and acrylic at first, but this subsided over time. The nose took on more Burgundian features towards my last glass, showing earth and mushrooms, a herbal streak and some peppery spice along with a touch of toasted wood.
The palate was a little rough at first blush - a real surprise giving the cool and classy nose. It had some density and really good fruit weight, with dark cherries and a hint of plums. Again, I got a sense of good purity on the fruit, rather filligreed and lacy, with perfumy flavours around the edges. Good round acid and velvety mouthfeel, but these gave way to a rather dry, woody texture and a sear of heat at the mid-palate, where the fruit abrubtly dropped off. It seemed rather imbalanced at this point, and it took quite awhile for the wine to come around. It slowly took on greater sweetness, the edges softened and integrated, and a finish built up, showing slightly gummy orange peel notes, toasted oak and slightly bitter herbs. The alcohol eventually receded into the background, until it became a rather more subdued wash of heat at the base of the throat. I was really enjoying it towards the end of the evening - the wine was round, velvety, with good weight, richness and intensity, and was nicely balanced with freshness. It is a bit edgy, but that should smoothen out with age. Do decant it for some time if you having a bottle soon.

The taste has much of the same profile as the nose, but not quite as full. Good acidity gives it some structure, but still very smooth. A touch of heat on the finish, but not as bad as I have found in a lot of other Oregon PN. After about 2 hours it really opened and was a really fabulous wine. In comparison to the other Oregon PN I have had, this blows away the competition. In comparison to all the other pinot that I have had, I would likely go for a RRV pinot around the same price point before I came back here.
I was apprehensive coming into this wine because I had the 2006 a few weeks ago and was not impressed by it. After having this, I realize that the lack-luster showing of the 06 was because I basically was killing a baby...holding a puppy. Sad isn't it? Although this wine is also still in it's youth, I do believe that it is beginning, or coming close to beginning, its drinking window. I would give it at least another 2-3 years and I think it will be really great stuff.

1st CellarTracker Worldwide Virtual Tasting Event; 8/15/2008-8/16/2008 (Byfield, MA and Conway, NH, and Many More Exciting Places Around the Globe): Tasted in conjuction with the CT Virtual Tasting, sadly not on line. Brought this to a friends home in New Hampshire and drank it over an hour while gazing at the full moon rise over the lake. The color was dark ruby. Nose of dark cherries, hints of smoke, spice. Palate was initially very fruity with black cherries, some meat, some spice. As it evolved, an earthiness descended which was very pleasing. Not as full as the Laurene, but I still love this wine. It is more restrained and complex than many New World Pinots. I highly recommend any of you to visit the winery someday. It is truly beautiful and state of the art. They also allow side by side comparisons with their French wines as part of their "by appointment" tasting.

1st CellarTracker Worldwide Virtual Tasting Event; 8/15/2008-8/18/2008 (USA, London, Italy, Finland, Singapore, and elsewhere): This was a very interesting wine to taste. In a blind tasting, I would have bet (and lost) a considerable sum that this wine was from Burgundy. I would be as bold as to bet that it came from the Côte de Nuits. So, it is the most "old world" Pinot Noir I have ever tasted from North America. After the initial aeration (necessary to let some strong funky notes blow off), the wine bursts from the glass with spices and violets. On the palate it is big, lush, and generous, with notes of spices, cinnamon, red cherries, and earth. The wine is medium-bodied, juicy, fruit-driven, and reveals a long raspberry and oak-laced finish. This will be best after 2009 and should drink well until 2016. My #2 wine of the night.

1st CellarTracker Worldwide Virtual Tasting Event; 8/15/2008-8/17/2008 (USA, London, Italy, Finland, and elsewhere): Dark but transparent color with a slight violent tint. I love the nose on this wine which comes across easily identifiable as new world Pinot Noir but also has a definite Burgundy influence as well with the cherry and oak mixing with a bit of earth. I believe the wine itself only sees 20% new oak so the oak influence is definitely not too high on the palate, which makes this wine a little more enjoyable for those who don't like a lot of oak. I think Burgundy fans would really enjoy this. The upfront acidity is nice with great texture and a good finish that lasts quite a while. Even when the wine had been open for quite some time it was still really nice.

Decanted for two hours along with a bottle of Four Graces. Initial nose of cherries, spices, raspberries, caramel, raisins, slight menthol and a little earth. On the palate though, this wine didn't deliver anything the nose was indicating and with a slightly bitter, fast finish...certainly young but we thought this would deliver at least something of what was to come. We most likely will not purchase again.
Paired with cedar plank salmon and roasted garlic mashed potatoes.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Tight nose giving way to some notes of black berries, black cherries and black raspberries with a dash of red hills dirt. Flavors of Bing cherries, black berries and raspberries with a slightly earthy finish. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins. medium to full body. Decant if drinking now or continue to hold. Guessing around the WIML90 mark but this wine really is too young.

Old world character from a French producer in Oregon. A nice way to share the 4th of July with neighbors. Nose plants one foot in Burgundy, the other in Willamette, and the palate is so expressive and balanced. I know this will be even better later, but when left to breathe an hour or two, it shows well now. Hard to resist especially at $36. Need to reload.

Drank this in a tasting vs. Bourgogne Chorey-les-Beaune 2004 (Drouhin as well), thought it was a fair tasting as vintages for these two were not super. I have been impressed by this Willamette Valley and I think many old world lovers would be as well. Started very fruity and sweet on the nose at noon, great varietal tones for a newbie like me. In the evening it was something else, tobacco and other nice notes I cannot link/describe yet were coming up.

overall: finish dissapears pretty fast unfortunetly. This has some real promise though and needs to be layed down. Right now it doesn't have that extra punch on it. This has room to improve though, so it'd be interesting to see where it is in 3-5 years

Deep dark purple and almost black in color, which was a bit of a surprise. HOLY COW is the nose on this yummy. I want to just crawl inside the glass and sleep. Lush round black fruits with a touch of funky earth. mmmmmm

A bit flat and not a very good comparison to the 2004 at the same dinner. The 04 was bright, vibrant and complex while the 05 was limited.

Nice dark pinot. Needed a bit of time to breath to show off the dark cherry fruit. Strong flavors are nice now, but would benefit from some time.

Delicious full ripe red fruit with enough body to balance. Excellent by itself and with pate and pasta with gruyere cheese. Cherry flavors, with a bit of earthy structure. Nice new world balance.

Nice way to compliment a Packer Thanksgiving victory and a hearty turkey dinner, this deep red exhibits bright cherry and other berry flavors and has an elegant finish.

Binny's Pinot Tasting (Binny's Highland park): nose: candied cherry, plum, and a bit of earth. Interesting nose that goes both ways on the new and old world.
taste: a nice bit of cherry and chocolate. Real good attack on the mid pallate
overall: finish dissapears pretty fast unfortunetly. This has some real promise though and needs to be layed down. Right now it doesn't have that extra punch on it. This has room to improve though, so it'd be interesting to see where it is in 3-5 years
