At seventeen years this is likely at its peak and should continue to drink well for another decade. Thankfully we still hold a couple more bottles of this vintage. The fill level was perfect while the cork appearing perfect was a bit soft upon extraction using a 'ahso' two pronged cork puller.
Dark garnet colored, medium full bodied, smooth, elegant, briary black berry and black raspberry fruits with notes of cassis, dusty cedar and hints of dark chocolate, herbs and creamy oak turning to gripping tannin on a fruit filled finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2021/05/groth-oakville-napa-cabernet-2004.html

Still drinking well and like an older world wine but in my opinion getting towards the end of the drinking window as the finish was not very long. Did go nicely with a Grilled NY Strip Steak.

Very pleasant drinker. Tanins are mellowed nicely. Could stand a bit more time in bottle. Muscular fruit character. Bit of leather. Nice balance. A wood fired steak would have been a welcome pairing.

Dark violet in color. Black licorice, vanilla and spice on the nose. Full bodied- tannins and acids are in perfect balance now. Drinking beautifully with mild fruits and dark chocolate on the palate. Velvety finish. Had issues with the cork on this bottle, but thankfully, the wine was unaffected.

Opened and decanted 2 hours before dinner of seared tri-tip, grilled asparagus, and baked potatoes. Black sappy purple color. Musty nose brings chocolate cherries, vanilla, creme de cassis, baking spices, and scattered floral and mineral notes. The palate is big and full-bodied, with thick, rich, savory Oakville viscosity, brining loads of blackberry pie, black currant, mocha coffee, cherry chocolate cake, and scattered hints of leather, herbs, and tobacco. The finish is rounding out perfectly with a juicy acidity in check vs. mellow, sweet tannins. This appears to be entering peak drinking, or at least in a very nice drinking window. I'd recommend drinking this 2014-2020.

Youthful despite 10 years from harvest. Still very fruit driven with anise, blackberry, vanilla, and a hint of mocha. Smooth with minimal oak and well integrated tannins. Finish is medium but very pleasing. I don't have any more but suspect that it will remain at this level for a handful of years ? Whether it will get much better?

PNP, could have used a decant, smokey nose, with hints of cola, blackberries, currants, plums, vanilla, dark chocolate notes, still has some tannins to intergrate, Plenty of life left and maybe even some improvment in it's future. My guess, previous ct note was from a bottle of questionable storage!

P&P. Dark crimson with slight lightening around the edges. Spices and chocolate covered cherries are prominent on the nose, while cedar, and fresh baked cake peek out. Thinner bodied, the palate is spicy with a good amount of oak. Slight green notes are present but not terribly distracting. Underneath all that is some good dark berry flavors, leather, with drying tannins and a hot finish. This wine just doesn't pull it all together. 88

Decanted two hours. Gorgeous nose, with overflowing with sweet oak and dark fruit. Ditto on the palate. Epic concentration, with excellent structure and length. For what could easily be a bull in a china shop, this also has elegance and grace. Ripe but not sweet or overly hot. On the negative side, there's a somewhat gritty mouthfeel that reminds me of the last glass of an undecanted old bottle, but there wasn't any sediment to speak of. The age is on the young side. I wish I would have waited a few more years on this one. Excellent wine. $50

Popped and poured. Nose was enjoyable showing classic California Cab components - dark cherries, cassis, leather, light mocha and tobacco leaf. Palate was somewhat hollow at the mid palate but showed a nice soft finish. The wine didn't come across as weighty as the alcohol may have suggested. Nice. Expected a little more unique expression of terroir.

Looking at the pretty solid reviews here on CT, I was pretty excited about opening this up as a nice little anniversary wine. Unfortunately, this did not deliver. I'm not sure if this was a bad bottle, or just entirely too young to be drank right now, but not only was this disjointed like crazy through most of the experience, but it completely closed down after about an hour. Initially very jammy on the nose, it showed ripe fruit flavors (blackberries, dark cherries and currant) immersed in pretty thick tannins. After about 30 minutes, it really opened up and integrated nicely with some nice oak and spice flavors, but it never really got to a point where I felt it was showing me all it had to offer. Then it totally shut down and tasted thin, chalky and uninteresting. If this was half the price I might consider giving it another shot, but I can think of at least 3 CA Cabs off the top of my head that are similar in price or cheaper and are quite a bit more interesting. 87 for overall experience, minus 1 for price.

Tasted at a retail wine tasting. Pleasant aromas of currant, spice, dried sage, and oak. Robust black currant and black cherry fruit on the palate. Youthful texture and tannins, which is to be expected; give this baby a year to sort itself out. The wine begins to lose steam on the finish, but not too abruptly or in a distracting way. Although there's nothing terribly wrong about this wine, there's nothing that really stands out about it either. Just a well-made, food-friendly cabernet sauvignon that one might reliably select off some overpriced steakhouse wine list without blowing your budget or disappointing your guests. But as a wine, I would call it Napa Lite. 87-88 points.
