    Tasted from magnum.

Ruby color with tawny hue showing the age. First nose has a slight touch of iron. Fruit is ripe and sweet. Vegetable scent of tomato stems suggesting presence of Cabernet Sauvignon. Sandy tannins of Sangiovese. Amazing how bottle aging makes the wine so smooth and satin.

Mostly tertiary aromas, but very well holding the age and could last for at least 5 more years without any signs of decline

    Elegant expression of famous Tignanello.

1981 was outshadowed by great 1982. It was 10th anniversary vintage and is considered a very fine one.

    Key oenological data:
Average sugar content of grapes at harvest 21.00%
Average total acidity of the grapes 7.80%
    Alcohol content after fermentation 13.00
    Average fermentation temperature 28C
    Length of fermentation 13 days
Acidity of wine after malo 5.90
Ageing in 225 litre barrels 20 months
Bottle ageing in our cellars 18 months

  • From a 6L! And the wine was gone. Rancid tasting. Very off. Such a bummer from a 6 liter bottle - this should have been good.

  • Birth Year - Themed wine dinner: This was the surprise of the lineup. 3/10 voted for this as the favorite.
Soft, red fruit. ruby red with some browning. Doesn't taste like a 37 year old wine at all.
Decanted 1 hour, and followed through 3 more. Initially really good.
As the night went on, the wine started to fall off. I'd say drink up asap if you have any and enjoy.
Short decant for sediment and start the journey.

  • What a wonderful surprise. Wine opened and left to breathe for 30 minutes. No colour fade at the rim, full nose and a soft, smooth flavour profile. The wine was gentle with an almost burgundian nose/palate.
The nose was more powerful than the palate.
I will be drinking the remaining bottles over the next 12-18 months, hoping all will be as good as this one.

  • 1981&1982: Corked.
Lovely, elegant taxture to the wine, but corkiness didn't let us enjoy it properly.

  • Plum to cassis on the slightly brooding nose with tobacco, dark chocolate, lilacs, dried herbs and lifting menthol.
Fullbodied and quite refreshing palate of ripe dark fruit complemented by leather, chocolate and medicinal herbs. Good length.
Quite nice though not as complex as the -82. Maybe the wood dominates a bit.

  • Attractive elegant nose, still fruit and acidity to match, light oak, very good.

  • Drank from magnum. Cork slightly damaged but if I had been super careful then I probably could have extracted it whole. Double decanted back into bottle (taking it to restaurant) maybe 3 hours before consumption. Wine was notably brick coloured on opening, but refreshed to a rich red-purple colour by time of drinking. This is a magnificent wine, beautifully tempered by age and just about perfect to drink now - you always worry with a wine this old that it might have gone past its best, but whilst this won't improve any further I think it will still be good for another 5 years or so. We opened a bottle of the 2007 to compare and contrast and realistically the wines could have been from different planets! The 07 is lovely, but so much more fruit and alcohol as you would expect from an infant!

  • Deteriorated cork. Some signs of bricking. Slightly truffled nose, with notes also of forest floor and decaying logs. Slightly resiny and also notes of stewed red fruit. There's almost a hint of Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the nose here. On the palate, there's a lot of sweetness, and lots of juicy red fruit. Some notes of varnish on the palate, and again stewed fruit. Softened tannins. Strange that the palate is so fresh, but the nose is so aged. You can clearly see the sangiovese influence here. Great acidity and a pleasant finish, though there are slight iron notes there.

  • Vintage Tignanello Tasting (Louise's House): Similar colour to the 80 Tig but this shows more concentration.
The nose is big on vegital notes with violets, tar and dark fruits shining. Very pretty.
Dry palate, moderate dusty tannins and well balanced acidity. Lots of plum, current, raspberry notes going on. A real mix of dark and light fruits. Secondary flavors are found in spades; lots of earthy, stone notes, green bell pepper, tobacco, and worn chest. Super long finish that showcases the solid structure of this wine.
Man this is a beauty. Drink now - 2015.
    Outstanding Quality. 94 pts.
