Drank this vintage back in October & it was still drinking well. It Seems to have flattened out now as this bottle wasn’t as good as the one we opened in October. If you have it, open it NOW & drink it.

Fairly rich fruit, decent acidity and soft tannin. Starting to gain some earthy flavors. Oak not noticeable. Bigger than we prefer these days, but not bad.

Opened and decanted for about 30 minutes at the WineWatch. Nose was not significant, maybe a little oakiness and miniscule floral component. It hit me that this wine was still pretty fresh on the palate and a decent amount of acidity. The palate was full for blackberry, some currant, and soft chewy tannins. I, and everyone else, really likes the wine. 2nd night: It held up over night in the Vino-tech and still is good. definitely a chocolate component followed by acidity and I won't let this go any further. drink it up now and enjoy this wine because it's not getting better I agree with everyone else below that it's now or never for this bottle, so if you have some, drink up.

PnP, no need to decant, aroma was lacking but the wine made up for it on the palette. Ripe black fruit, med body, med to long finish. Drinking well now, maybe a year left, no longer. Zero sediment.

Tonight was our first real steak since the Coronavirus, so it called for a Napa Cab. Groth never wows, but it always pleases. Splash decanted and drank over 3 hours, during college friends Zoom, with and after dinner. No detailed notes. Rich, earthy, tasty. Drinking well now, but at least a few more good years left.

This is the reason I always remind myself that MOST California wines are best in their primary years or even on release with a long decant. This is now feeling heavy and falling out of balance as the tannins are fading and much much sweet fruit is left behind. This was a stunning good wine on release and for several years after...One bottle to go. Thank you for the fun along the way. DRINK

Overall note from a Groth tasting, presented by the winery at the Yacht Club in Lillydale. The pours were small, but sufficient to understand each wine. 2013 Groth Oakville Cabernet Sauvignonn – This comes across as big and a bit green. This seems quite young, is quite simple, and got me thinking that they better age well to justify the price. Impression - 88 2014 Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – This is a step up from the regular cabernet. At least there is some interest. Full bodied with spice, dark fruit, earth and chocolate. I still don’t get the price tag though. Impression - 89. 2008 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon – This wine was boring and tired. This wine does not taste like it is meant to age, as it should be singing right now. Impression - 87 2009 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon – A slightly different flavor profile from the 2008, but also dull and tired. I should have asked the presenters if they decanted and how long. This was either over decanted or is not aging well. Impression - 87 2010 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon – Ok, this tastes like an acceptable cabernet. Our discussion at the table was that it just tastes “cabby”, and I would expect more from Napa and this producer. Impression - 88

Dark fruit on the nose. Very pretty maroon color in the glass. Light hit of currant on the tip of the tongue. Some tobacco. Some still sturdy tannin. Detectable, for those of us who look for it, acid. Nice full body.

Decanted 2 hours, some sediment. Deep red to mahogany edge. Blue and blackberry immediately on opening. Nose is perfumed and layered with blue and black fruit, a bit of barnyard, oak and cedar over all. Medium body with very good acid backing. Balanced flavors of fruit, oak and tannin. Lingering finish. Light, very elegant, classic Oakville cab. This is drinking very well now, but has structure for many years to come.

Started out with bitter green finish, slowly opened up and smoothed out, good fruit with complex flavor, decent wine maybe my expectations were too high for this wine, fairly pricey, but the wine is focused and precise in way that cheaper wines don't have in their taste, drank with steak, won't drink again.

Less sediment in this bottle as compared to the 1/2 teaspoon taken from one previously. Bitter entry that faded with time. Clearly still too young for comfort. Veggies on the palate with subtle oak presence. Notes on last glass...still too much alcohol, still too young, tannins!!!

The 2009 was a bit weightier and ripe, whereas this was more depth full and layered. Dark fruits peek out from under the oak. Complex enough to justify the price.

Dark purple color turning crimson at the rim with a transparent edge. The nose gives off attractively perfumed, concentrated dark berries, smoke, vanilla, and toasted oak. The palate is full-bodied; somewhat dry but presents some dark, ripe fruit in the background; attractive, supple texture. Flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, espresso, dark chocolate, pain grille, and volcanic stone form the core. This is very well-balanced and leads to a long, lifted, supple finish with hints of dust and brown spices. This is one of the best, if not the best vintage of Groth in the last decade. Drink now with 45 minutes decanting until 2025. 92+

Once again, this full bodied, voluptuous and complex wine can play with the big boys and hold its own. Restrained nose, but deep palate of dark fruit, spice, and traces of coffee and or tobacco. What I love about this wine more is that it does not follow in the path of over sweetness of most big bodied Napa wines. Sure its big and bold, but not jammy...Very nice!

Holy sediment! Took about 1/2 teaspoon out of the VinOair filter...
Bordeaux-like flavors abound. Oak is present for sure, but is pleasant. The fruit is black and the color is dark, edging on purple. Tannins are there in spades.

A lovely showing from an under-appreciated producer. Full bodied, muscular, and Bordeaux-like in character. Black currants, plums, cocoa, cinnamon bark, and spices on the nose. Very expressive with a seamless array of flavors, length, complexity, and youthful grip. Outstanding now but time will do it good.

This wine punched me just right, in the right spot! Its not too often that 2/3 of the way down the bottle, I am so giddy and satisfied that it takes me 3 hours to finish one bottle...
Contrary to the price, this is a very serious, complex California wine with a Bordeaux panache. Mouth coating flavors of dried black fruits, fig, baking spices, and sexy oak with a pleasantly dry and long exit that meticulously decimates all the flavors for 45 seconds...An easy to understand wine that is perfect for good friends that don't have much experience with good wine. A very, very solid 93 experience! I had a really good time with this bottle.
Excellent wine, mineral nose, lots of wood but not too heavy. Slight fruit and cherry taste. Followed with a 2009 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon - the 2010 is a fuller cab.
Opened my 2nd (and last) bottle October 2, 2015. Continues to drink very well. Smooth taste, a bit acidic on the tongue and finish, slight fruit taste with earthy undertone.

Good QPR Oakville wine. Pulled the cork after Coravin'ed almost half the bottle. Consistent notes from earlier, even better being aired out from the bottle. It's the wine I point to when someone ask, "what's a good wine?"

Coravin'ed a couple of ounces. Nose upon opening is wonderful. Typical Oakville fruits on the palate with a little bitterness. Bitterness disappeared after an hour of air. Very good value wine.

Always over delivers, and wow, this vintage is just a knock out example of fine Oakville cab. Great mix of all sorts of fruit, a hint of vanilla, deep dark oak, and just the slightest hint of roasted cedar plank. While it stops short of a blockbuster by its lack of tannin and big mouthfeel and elongated finish (try their Reserve if you want that), this is one of the best $40-$55 bottles out there.

Restaurant purchase with limited aeration and no decant... BUT, delicious from the outset! Vanilla, plums on both the nose and palette. Very smooth, balanced with a medium to long finish. Everyone at the table loved this wine. Would order again and wish I had some at home! Drinking very well. 92+

We came into the '10 Groth Cab with some trepidation but so glad we went down this road. Bought at the winery a year ago, it was good right after opening but nothing special. But after an hour+ decant, it really came alive. My sensory's are not refined enough to pick out the many nuances, but it had what I call a typical Napa flatland Cab nose, complex pallet and a rose petal velvety smooth finish. This turned out to be one of the better Cabs we've had in a while and rivals some Jordan's and Silver Oak at a relatively competitive mid-range price of $57.

Really impressed with this wine. Have heard mixed reviews and was excited to try a glass tonight. Great nose. Dark berries overwhelm the palate on initial taste and mellows as it reaches the back of mouth. Medium/full bodied. Would love a bottle with my next steak!

P&P. Color deep red with purple and black hues, medium-full body. Aromas and flavors of ripe black and red currants, dark plum, cocoa and some notes of earth and tobacco. Forward style blitzes the palate with tasty dark fruit, moderate acidity, medium tannins that are youthful and grip the teeth/gums. Medium trailing finish. Overall an excellent CS that held its own after our group had already consumed four other bottles.

Splash decanted for 90 minutes and drank over next three hours, with one sip when first opened. First, at this age it definitely needs at least 2 hours decanting. Started bitter; but with a very long and promising finish. Opaque purple -- think Carlisle zin color. Dryness and mouthfeel are pretty unique (in my experience) to Groth. It is almost chalky. Tastes like tart blueberries; like tart cherries, but blue. Good spice. Some licorice. Finish stayed very long and interesting. 91 is for now; this could be higher in 5 years, so I'm going back to Sam's to get 6 for the cellar at $38.

Slowly becoming one of my favorites. Very young indeed but for the price point it is really good. Classic napa cab and I had this a weeks ago and the notes are consistent. Blackcherry, cocoa, some violet on the nose. Nice touch of plum and fig balanced with a little earthiness, almost tar like but not that pungent because the fruit really takes the controls. Nice silky tannins and finish. I would definitely lay this down for another 5-10 before opening it again.

Beautiful wine with light tannins and rich dark fruit. Blueberry, blackberry, dark red cherry. Hint of mocha and espresso and just a touch of tobacco, this is a typical Oakville cab with an entry level body and finish. I was hesitant since I don't see many ratings for this, and it seems to be on sale all over the place, but it was a great reminder of why I joined their wine club. Also got me looking forward to the red strip Reserve Cab for this vintage!

Groth Cabs are pretty dependable and 2010 version is excellent, even better than usual. 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot -- but tastes like a big Cab, even with the rather large Merlot percentage. Very fair value in the $45-$50 range. Tannins have already softened quite a bit, so it doesn't even need a long airing.

Lovely medium to dark purple/reddish color Dark berries, lite soft fruit. Elegant style, oak, but restraint as a whole and lacking depth, richness and complexity. Based on the deep color and modest nose, I thought I was in for a treat but this wine is in its youth and needs more time to evolve. Good wine, but way over priced. Conservative score of 86 points (90 point scores come to easy these days).

I've sampled a few vintages of the Napa Groth Cab and it's consistent year to year. This bottling, however, was a step above the rest. Really elegant styling. Yeah, there was a fair dose of oak, but I think the fruit supported it fine. The finish was rich but not overdone. Great acidity and almost slightly Bordeaux esque restraint as a whole. Very nice, highly recommended. Very surprised and impressed.

really solid...drinking from a smaller schott-zweisel triton glass made it taste more exquisite than i would have thought! holds up to some really high-end expensive wines i've had recently...cherry, dark fruit, medium bodied cabernet that can taste fairly big!

Winery tasting. Blended with 20% Merlot, soft and approachable. Nose of mixed black and red berries, plums, and some vanilla and emerging earthy flavors. Softer than the reserve but still showing some structure. Great finish.

This is a youngster and requires time to come together. While enjoyable & fairly smooth after opening, it doesn't give the richness (dark red fruit and pencil lead nose) that comes out after 4-5 hours of vigorous decanting. It reminds me of a light Kathryn Hall although there is no comparison to the overall richness of the KH which comes out within a couple of hours. Then it starts to close up again but the lightly rich finish is lengthening with round tannins with some residual anise. A bit "hot" now, but, could be a good value for the cellar. Overall, I'm finding the mid priced '10s very challenging (and I've tried a lot) as the acidity is high which is suppressing the fruit and richness right now with a tendency toward some alcohol heat. Thinking while '10 is classic, that means pick some that you can coax out some "love" after hours and hours of decanting...then cellar for 4-5 years. Hmmmm....maybe this an affordable young complex wine?
This will drink well in a few years. Right now it tastes like a berry souffle comprised of raspberries, strawberries, dried cherry and drizzled with Cherry NyQuil. Medium + viscosity and alcohol. I would park this in the garage (or somewhere cool) and come back for it in around 2017 and wine bong it with some baby back ribs.

A bigger and richer blackberry expression on the nose. This seems a bit more ready to go next to the Honig 2011. For a couple of reasons you can imagine. Has that classed Napa appeal. Red and black fruit palate. Barrel spice. clove. Very nice finish.

Not quite as good as the 2008 but still pretty good. Full bodied with structure.

Nose of dark fruit and some cocoa on the nose followed by even more dark fruit on the palate with some earthiness. Medium bodied with average finish. Overall a fine Cali Cab.

Earthy but with big black fruits. Not bad, but for Oakville, sub par.
