Had a last minute change of plans, so just threw some (good) pantry supplies together for a simple pasta with meat sauce. Went to pull something from the cellar, saw this, and thought "well, this one probably deserves better than my simple pasta dish, but 2006? why not? what am I waiting for?". So I pulled it, popped it, poured it ... and thoroughly enjoyed it! I have one of these left, I'm feeling no rush - as a previous reviewer noted, there's plenty of structure and acidity still showing in this one.

What a gorgeous wine. It was concerned that I might have held it a bit too long, but no, the acidity had held more vibrancy in the fruit than I expected. Dark cherry notes with a hint of tartness, mouthfeel was silky, elegant and lingering. Delicious!

This was really drinking well. Light end of Brunello. Herbal aspects of thyme and sage. Went pretty well with lots of cheeses and sun-dried tomato pasta.
Murphie even liked it and she doesn't always like Brunello.

Decanted for 2 hrs. Dark color with bricking around the rim. Served with ragu bolognese. It's been about 4 years since the last bottle and I immediately noticed upon decanting that the strong medicinal aromas had calmed down significantly, leaving more pleasant herbal notes. Black cherry fruit on the tongue with a velvety mouthfeel and soft tannin. Best bottle yet and most likely at its peak.

Wish I had tried these years ago. It’s nowhere near a 94 point wine - maybe it was back in 2010 when it was tasted and received press. Stewed and overripe fruit has mostly faded with acidity taking over. It’s good with food but is definitely disappointing overall. Definitely get some VA and reduction on the nose as others have noted, which reduces its score.

Big nose, and heady. Loaded with lots of cooked/stewy black cherries, cough syrup and some VA as well as herb switches. The palate echoes the nose perfectly. Chunky with good acidity. 88

I gave this bottle a full day of slow-O before taking note. The first sample on night one was somewhat clamped down and abrupt. Second day it had a full, beautiful bouquet and a complex and harmonious palate that showed undeniable typicity. With the extra aeration, I enjoyed this more than my bottle in January. Dark ruby color with rust creeping in and a small deposit of sediment. 5+12+17+8= 92

It took several hours open before I felt that the fruit really came into focus in the overall picture, as it seemed dominated by tannins and acidity early on. Feminine and smooth, with fine nuance and all the beauty that this ($35) level of BdM should possess, but I have a hunch that it can’t go much higher up the ladder and should be gotten to within the next 3-4 years for maximum enjoyment. Rusty crimson color of light saturation. Clear, quick legs and a small amount of sediment. Light to medium intensity aroma with correct and clean varietal nature. Medium length, and somewhat simple, finish. 5+11+17+7= 90

Dark red. Cigar tobacco and leather on the nose. Dusty, dried cherries, red currant and and some early savory flavors. Beginning to lose some of its fruit. Went well with meaty pasta.

Stor doft av örter, körsbär, läder och choklad. Smak av körsbär, örter, choklad. Djup, komplex och välbalanserad med lång eftersmak och grynig tanninstruktur. Mycket bra!

Opened, drank with pasta then finished the bottle after dinner. Other than finishing with tart black cherry flavors I don't have much else to add to my April note. Really good stuff! Loved the nose.

Dark Garnet. Licorice , tobacco and Violet's on the nose. Young, tannic, first sip at PNP was fresh cherry juice, and over the next hour there was nice balance of minerals, dark cherry, licorice , and pomegranate flavors. This was a glass from a bottle that I obtained via Coravin. When I come back to this bottle I will decant it.

Lovely bottle of Brunello, very elegant wine, nice cherry fruit and oriental spices, soft tannins and balanced acidity, the oak really well-handled and integrated, clean and refreshing, something mineral on the finish, no sign of age yet. Great food wine. - 91 points

had a taste this past weekend of some rosso from this producer so decided to open this better to have waited as still tight tannins though there is some fruit starting to express itself better with the squash pasta dish at this time holding would allow for some further development

Crimson and transparent. Nose is still tight with sour cherries, sage and vanilla - the bottle has been breathing for 4 hours. The mouth feel is large but quite tannic with undertones of dark fruit. The tannins dominate the early finish but give way to a lingering cherry finish that is the wines best feature. 5+12+16+8=91

One of two favorite still wines at a tasting event. Was poured two healthy samples. Dark garnet to purple color. Rustic and backward nose, featuring Tuscan terroir, assorted peppercorns, a certain garrigue-like weediness, the smell of second or third use oak barrels, and an element akin to unsweet molasses.
Huge, but welcoming attack of delightful minerality and excellent grip, with a hint of weedy bitterness. Mid-palate shows great structure and dusty to grainy minerality. The used oak barrel element reappears and the mid palate, detracting from an otherwise excellent experience. The well structured back transitions to a very long and wonderfully gripping finish. Unfortunately, the bitterness and used oak barrel elements also show on the finish.
If it weren't for the used oak and bitter notes, I would have scored this 93+. If these two elements integrate, and I think they may, then this wine will be awesome. The 91 point score reflects a one point deduction for each of the distracting elements.
The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Slow. It smells like and Oak. It tastes like and Stoniness. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Round texture. The wine finishes Long.

Clear ruby color with garnet on the rim. Aromas of sage flower and limestone. Though not fully developed, the flavors of red berry, herbs and a light touch of wood, along with a lovely mouthfeel made for a great pairing with a simple dish of pasta with tomato, basil & garlic. Will try another in a year to see how it's coming along.
