3/31/2024 - tedcholl Likes this wine: 93 pointsMy first time trying a Montepeloso, their 'Grand Vin', from Tuscany. A blend of Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Malavasia Nera and Alicante Bouchet. Reminded me of a Bolgheri. Blackberry, leather, cherry, bacon fat, savory herbs, Tuscan dust. Tannins present but resolved and well integrated. Excellent wine. |

3/25/2024 - Vinnut Likes this wine: 93 pointsDeep, dark reddish-purple garnet; opaque in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of dark fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, spices, herbs, cocoa/coffee, anise, tar, minerals & hints of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied, with very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe dark fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with earthy, dark cocoa, spices, herbs, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing although it should develop further with additional aging. An indicative blend of 65% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Malvasia Nera. |

3/19/2024 - Vinnut Likes this wine: 93 pointsSubsequent notes on this wine from 6 years ago. Dark reddish-purple garnet, essentially opaque in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of dark fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of violets, spices, herbs, dark cocoa, coffee, tar, minerals & hints of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied, with very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe dark fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with earthy, dark cocoa, spices, herbs, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but at 14 years of age, it is close to or at its peak of development. Although it may hold here for several more years, I doubt any further development would occur. |

Full, forward & attractive nose of dark fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & currants with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of lavender & violets, spices, dried herbs, dark cocoa, tar, minerals & oak/vanilla undertones. Medium bodied, with good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, rich, ripe dark fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, herbs, cocoa, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but at 13 years of age, it is close to or at its peak of development. 3/9/2024 - redders Likes this wine: 91 pointsColour still rich and deep. Ripe and luscious but plenty of matter. Still with a twist of tannin on the finish. Classy maybe a little glossy but lovely balance and good with and without food. Ready now but at least 5 years to go. |

3/9/2024 - karanan Likes this wine: 92 pointsDecanted for 3 hours. Fruit still retained. Wine softened over time. Very enjoyable. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It tastes like blackberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has angular texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. Paired with lasagna, but this probably would have done better with steak. I think that this wine will do well for another 5-10 years. |

3/1/2024 - bobbylion Likes this wine: 92 pointsStarts Resiny and chewy. A bit of a Kompott. But gets much better with air. Sweetish good brunello level. Funny last time I tasted CS which isn’t there. Maybe it’s the food. Needs 3 hrs decant or another 3-4 years. Really very good for its QPR. |

2/29/2024 - andrewfowler Likes this wine: 91 pointsCrunchy red cherry over deeper blackcurrant and blackberry, alongside cedar, purple florals, tonka bean, amber cologne… oh my this is fully haunting. The Sangiovese is more present on the palate, with rich balsamic-vinegar undercurrents, alongside loads of graphite from the Cab, with drying and rather intense tannins at first – my tongue is stuck to my gums. Maybe give this a few more years to unwind a bit, because that aroma is unimpeachable. |

Dark, brooding color, some modern touches on the attack but all that Sangiovese rides in to hold it all together with brightness and savory grip. Very easy to drink, even excellent in its way, but somehow forgettable in the final analysis. |

2/23/2024 - Verna L. Poole wrote: NRI was looking forward to drinking this field blend of 30% Montepulciano, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, 10% Marselan, and 10% Alicante Bouschet. However, the flavors I encountered were a sweet note of maraschino cherry, plus cedar, baking spices, new leather and charred barrel. In other words, this wine had lots of oak on it. Was this use of oak covering the poor quality of the fruit? Hmmm... |

2/19/2024 - SMHalps Likes this wine: 90 pointsI'm not sure why, but I was less impressed with this bottle than other Eneos I have had in the past, including one previous bottle from this vintage. I shared this with my wine group and we had it alongside a magnum of the 2008 Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro, and maybe it just didn't stand up well to the flavor profile of the Galardi? Still it was enjoyable, and the QPR is pretty good. I have more of this vintage, hopefully the other bottles will show a little better. |
