5/5/2024 - ShadowIII Likes this wine: 93 pointsFrom Magnum, very sexy, opulent in your face nose of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, spice, vanilla, soft integrated tannins, lacking a little in backbone (especially in comparison to the 2005 Pontet Canet tasted alongside it), but so seductive who could complain |

4/29/2024 - jeagle Likes this wine: 97 pointsDecanted only one hour by mistake. It deserved several hours but the wine was delicious from the outset. By the final sips three hours later, this wine was beguiling. It certainly held everything I seek in a Cabernet-heavy Bordeaux style bottle. Soft at entry but wondrous at the finish, this is memorable. |

4/19/2024 - drmarc61 Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis wine held a beautiful balance of fruit, earth, spice and mineral notes. Medium density wine that remained integrated throughout the 3 hours of consumption (one hour decant). This wine is in a nice drinking window and likely has another decade of good drinking. Cheers! |

4/7/2024 - jeagle Likes this wine: 96 pointsDecanted for 4 hours then consumed over two nights. And the bottle held up just fine. This is an amazing wine with subtlety and charm. It combines lovey texture with a smooth construction of acid and tannin. So satisfying amidst a sea of just okay. Ah, but the price tag of satisfaction. |

3/28/2024 - Cablover1982 Likes this wine: 97 pointsGoing on 2 hr decant. The eucalyptus. Oh my the eucalyptus. So pretty. So potent. Married to dense Dark Pritchard Hill fruit, crushed red rocks, espresso, melted black licorice, tobacco leaf and striking minerality. Spectacular mix of fruit and terroir. Medium to medium +, Great finish. |

3/26/2024 - sean7711 Likes this wine: 97 pointsI really enjoyed this wine. I opened this on Friday night as a backup bottle, giving it some air. I ended up vacuuming it and drinking it evenly over Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights. On Sunday, I got a bunch of cigar, tobacco, menthol. It really found its stride on Monday and Tuesday. A deft touch of classic Sonoma/Napa Melka - but I felt this wine was not out of place in right bank Bordeaux, which its 80% Merlot, 20% Cab Franc is clearly trying to replicate. Very well done, and I will seek out more of this. |

Captures that elusive blend of elegance and power, this is probably at it's peak and should sail along for several more years. Fabulous. |

3/1/2024 - drmarc61 Likes this wine: 92 pointsI was fascinated to read about the high ratings that others have given to this wine. I am a huge Melka fan and know that many of his wines need a good decade of rest before entering into a great drinking window. |

1/5/2024 - eudora Likes this wine: 94 pointsStill a layered, textured, bang-you-over-the-head flavor set, but at age 12 the acidity has faded. Like many past-peak wines, it was enjoyable but less a present force and more a reminder of what it had been. I waited too long. |

2/18/2024 - Genius Light Likes this wine: 97 pointsAs always, Philippe Melka has crafted an outstanding wine: lovely aromas of fruit & spice, the wine is rich & complex with a long, long finish. A wine in a beautiful place right now. Decanted three hours. 97+ |

2/17/2024 - happy712 Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis was very tight upon opening. Needs 2 hours to start opening up, but the fruit profile doesn't come out until after the 6 hour mark. The perfect balance of fruit, earth, and interesting complexity. Nice long-sh finish. Pair with short ribs, cream sauce, cheeses. |

12/31/2023 - drmarc61 Likes this wine: 96 points4 hour decant. This wine was a great balance of primary, secondary and tertiary notes held together by smoothing tannins. Dark and blue fruit mixed with tobacco case and leather notes, with spice and loam to create a beautiful medley to accompany dry-aged, rib-eyes and salmon fillets. |

12/31/2023 - hrazdiiv Likes this wine: 92 pointsI’m a big fan of Melka’s and this is another solid cuvée. I rated this 92 back in 2015, and feel it’s held up very well though I do think it’s well within its peak drinking window right now. The color of the wine was a medium-dark purple but closer examination and swirling in the glass reveals quite a bit of crimson. The nose is giveaway California with loads of cassis, dark blue fruits, ripe plum and lavender all present. We drank the wine undecanted for about four hours so it had a chance to breathe and indeed, it held up nicely putting on some velvety weight with notes of dark chocolate and charcoal showing toward the end. I’m not sure why the consensus says to drink by 2019 (that’s clearly off) but I’d recommend within a few years at this point for certain. |

12/19/2023 - GJVines Likes this wine: 94 pointsOpen in bottle for about 4 hours before decanting at restaurant and then it rested about 20 minutes in the decanter while having a cocktail. The nose was very nice but relatively subdued. Tannins, prominent at first "tasting-sip" when the bottle was opened at home, were nicely mellowed by the time we drank the wine for dinner. Good complexity of darker fruits from attack to the medium-long finish. All in all, a very enjoyable wine. It paired beautifully with the lamb chops and the chocolate soufflé dessert. I believe it has several more years of good drinking ahead of it. |

12/17/2023 - drmarc61 wrote: 93 pointsOne hour decant. All of the components are there for a very good wine. Still on the young side. The primary, secondary and tertiary notes were too tightly wound. The energy contained in the wine was impressive and the tannins were there to further allow this wine to become more nuanced. I can see 2 point upside in 3-5 years. |
