mike's house
Tasted Sunday, September 7, 2008 by KeithAkers with 247 views
Headed over to mike's place to meet up with him, shane, and his brother in law to lay back a few beers and wines while enjoying the Bears put a beat down on the Colts
The bears putting a good old beat down on the colts made this all teh better. Tons of fun with great people and watching the beloved win is always a perfect match
2005 Spring Valley Vineyard Uriah 93 Points
USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
this was decanted for 3 hours, recorked, and then left open for a good 3 hours more before drinking
nose: intoxicating and deep nose filled with black cherries, smoke, blackberries, and anise. Fruit is certainly present, but not in a super fruit bomb way. Big balance and lots of depth
taste: very rich and elegant with a lot of saavy providing smooth flavors of black cherry, smoke, blackberries, bits of leather, and a touch of anise
overall: a very beautiful and elegant wine that has a ton to offer. Smooth and rich with a pretty black cherry attack and blackberry+anise finish. The tannins are nice and plush and this will be singing in 5 years, but is very accessible right now

1999 Frédéric Magnien Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Rouge 88 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
nose: light and distinctive nose of mushrooms, sour cherries, earth tones and some raspberry bits work together in a seductive manner
taste: smooth with a touch of class providing tones of mushrooms, sour cherries and earth notes
overall: this seems to be right in it's sweet spot right now. The acidity isn't overbearing and the nose is right in the pocket as it makes the wine. Good aromatics with a smooth mushroom based attack and a easy earthen finish

2006 Viña Cobos Malbec Felino 87 Points
Argentina, Mendoza, Lujan de Cuyo
nose: fruit foreward nose of dark cherry, blackberry, oak, and smokey tones with them being more surface tones rather then real depth that the Uriah showed
taste: nice and easy but a bit thin with tones of dark cherries and blackberries with a hint of smoke hiding in there
overall: a nice and solid malbec, but it doesn't really bring those nice and rich dark flavors that I love from it. Smooth but thinnish dark cherry attack with not much of a finish of blackberry
