Community Tasting Notes (average 88.7 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 47 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by HW1018 on 2/18/2019 & rated 92 points: Well, 15 years in a bottle and we decided to crack it open. In this case, age does equals quality. I read some reviews prior to opening this bottle and wasn't expecting much. I was surprised!! All the notes suggested by wine professionals and other bloggers (concerning better vintages) was dead on with this 2004 vintage. Almonds, French Bread bakery notes, citrus, smooth, and just simply delicious. This was an education on holding on to a bottle and letting time do its magic. (1055 views)
Tasted by Timporter on 9/30/2013: Yep, still lots of life, showing secondary flavors. Pretty good though this bottle had a bit of sulfury funk to it. (4023 views)
Tasted by lovanc@outlook.com on 3/16/2013: Age has definitely made this wine better. Good acidity finer bubbles and layers of flavor. (100 views)
Tasted by mattdathan on 2/16/2013 & rated 90 points: Lovely. Beautifully integrated. Still plenty of life in this one. (4220 views)
Tasted by jtt300 on 2/17/2011 & rated 90 points: Nice crisp citrus. Smooth (4864 views)
Tasted by henbjo on 1/2/2010 & rated 84 points: A decent sparkler with the typical BdB citrus aspect, lime peel on the nose. Citrus is predominant on the palate, but a bit og peach and some floral notes are also present. Acidity was lower than what I prefer in a BdB, and the mousse was a bit on the sloppy side. A decent wine, but for the price (here in Norway at least) there are definitely better deals from Champagne, as well as Spain and Italy. 84 points. (5682 views)
Tasted by drycab on 12/26/2009 & rated 90 points: Great with fish dip and lobster cakes. This is actually the best showing this has had. A little yeast, some citrus, some melon, a little acid to cut the fat in the dip/lobster cakes and some toast so it was a little like an appetizer all by itself. (4730 views)
Tasted by drycab on 4/20/2009 & rated 90 points: This is mellowing nicely and has lost all of its sharp edges. Great starter! (2618 views)
Tasted by Ombibulous on 2/9/2009 & rated 83 points: Drank this with surf and turf (salmon and t-bone steak) at Gosia's. Still quite good. We drank this with the main courses. Plentiful bubbles, but of medium size. Golden colour. Unremarkable nose, not as yeasty as Champagne. The flavour is reasonably strong, but again, not as yeasty as Champagne. (I don't call it Champagne unless it's the real thing!) The finish is medium and relatively yeasty. Overall, I'm glad I bought it, especially in the half bottle, as it was just the right thing with dinner, in just the right amount. High good (83.5). (2477 views)
Tasted by drycab on 1/26/2009 & rated 88 points: Great wine to cook with and once you use it in a sauce, its then great with the food. Grouper with a tomato-hot & green pepper-onion-garlic-thyme sauce. It was good! (2463 views)
Tasted by Heynetty on 1/1/2009 & rated 89 points: A: Yellow gold
N: Green apples and light cream
P: Russets, peach stone and for JTH a touch of band aid and lime. Light creamy medium finish. No burn form the 12.9% alcohol and so well integrated. Acidity made this a good aperitif wine.$32 a bottle. Decent QPR. (502 views)
Tasted by Combee1 on 12/26/2008 & rated 90 points: Golden with sparse bubbles. Nose of mostly red apple and toast. Dense but not heady, juicy but dry. A heavyweight sparkler showing apple, citrus, and a touch of vanilla. Outstanding. (B+). (2445 views)
Tasted by drycab on 12/20/2008 & rated 88 points: Not as good as the last bottle. (2497 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 12/12/2008 & rated 90 points: nose: great nose filled with mousse, almonds, roasted nuts, bits of toasted bread, racy mineral tones, and a nice bit of vanilla extract. A gorgeous nose with beautiful balance and nice depth with classic blanc de blancs flavors

taste: wonderful texture with full flavors of lemon peels, almonds, roasted nuts, toasted breads, minerals, and tangy citrus tones. nice depth with good tart acidity to give this a good spine on the palate

overall: A wonderful wine. Great balance and texture with nice depth to it. It has that classic BdB feel and smell to it, with a bit of californication at the same time that is very alluring. (2455 views)
Tasted by Claudio161 on 12/12/2008 & rated 88 points: Binny's Champagne Seminar (Highland Park, IL): Sight: Straw color wine

Nose: Mineral components made for a very interesting approach on the nose. Some off notes of surgical rubber that blew off. Bakery smells. Some citrus and tree fruit notes as well.

Palate: Tasty was the first impression. Citrus and ripe tree fruit notes.

Overall: A very pleasant sparkler that impresses me what can be made in the US. 88 Points and solid. (3559 views)
Tasted by GreatLibations on 11/11/2008 & rated 90 points: Upon second review this really is as is the whole line up and outstanding specimen from CA. The mousse is dense, aromas are classic, superb flavor density exhibiting mild toast. Just excellent. (2533 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 9/6/2008 & rated 88 points: A medium gold colour with a steady stream of bubbles rising from the base of the glass. Floral notes with butter croissant, nut oil and lemon blossom. Light to medium body. The palate has a lovely mouthfeel with autolytic character and more buttery citrus. Very much NOT champagne but a lovely Napa Valley interpretation. A very tasty aperitif. Not massive length but hugely enjoyable nonetheless. (2628 views)
Tasted by wihong on 8/24/2008 & rated 84 points: Color: Pale Gold. Aroma: Bready, yeasty, lemony, lime zest, pineapple, elegant. Taste: Big frontal attack, woody, smoky, beer/lager taste at palate entry. Zing, lemon sorbet finish. Little rough, not very complex. (2559 views)
Tasted by cobbpa on 8/16/2008 & rated 88 points: Chicago Air & Water Show (1660 N LaSalle, Chicago, IL): Light but crackery, break-strong nose. Light crema, smooth lemon and other soft citrus tastes with a medium finish. (3051 views)
Tasted by stevetimko on 7/4/2008: Nice sparkling wine. Not yeasty, which is actually something I usually want in sparkling wine. But still nice. Good minerality. Nutty. It needed a few minutes for some odd flavor to blow off and let the flavor open up. Very nice finish. Not a lot of complexity but lots of pleasant flavor. I'm thinking this might be a pretty good sushi wine. (2428 views)
Tasted by Stephan O on 7/2/2008 & rated 90 points: To date, the best non-Champagne sparkler I've had. It's broad and rich -- hey, it's made with 100% Calichard, right? -- and it shows mostly lemon, fig, and the dough that others have mentioned. I'm impressed with the respectable bead and the solid balance. It's not the longest or most complex bubbly, but in my view it easily beats anything else from the New World. Excellent purchase at $27, too. (Tasted three times, on 7/2/08, 9/20/08, and 2/14/09, with consistent notes. It seemed to have a bit more acid and verve on the third go-round.) (2746 views)
Tasted by Siggy on 6/10/2008 & rated 88 points: Tasting Group Dinner (Craig's House): Flavors of tart citrus/lemon and bread dough. A little lean on the finish, but crisp and nice overall. (3522 views)
Tasted by z_willus_d on 4/6/2008 & rated 85 points: Not much fruit here, but this is refreshing with dominant acid and citrus components. Not too complex or interesting, but it is serviceable and made a nice pairing to my home-made nigiri. (3183 views)
Tasted by dank on 4/2/2008 & rated 86 points: good beading. doughy/yeasty with a hint of a citrusy and snappy nose. the alcohol is evident. not bad, but probably would drink something else. lay it down. (3290 views)
Tasted by sosgoodjhu on 3/26/2008 & rated 89 points: a bit unbalanced with more alcohol coming thru than fruit. (3077 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
