Brioche, mushroom, herbs and caramelized apple. It still retains very good richness while the acidity is still lively and supportive. Drinking very well.

Champagne Dinner in Champaign (NAYA - Champaign IL): Mediocre fill, dark color, but no worries, this was great. So much rich ripe and cooked orchard fruit notes with equally complex spice. Kept evolving and unfolding. I would have enjoyed this slightly more if it were a little brighter and longer, but that is nit-picking. Some enjoyed this even more, with the wine meriting 99 JT points. From the same case as another bottle at a dinner three years that was ever-so-slightly better/ fresher.

Burgundy and Barolo (Oficine Brera, Los Angeles): It almost looks rose the color is so intense. At first this came across as too sherried with some slightly stewed fruit. With a bit of time this came around and revealed outrageous complexity -- orange marmalade and bitter cacao. This delicious wine is a textbook example of aged Champagne. Drink up, this is so interesting now, and I don't see it worth the risk of further aging.

Medium to deeper medium color. Loads of lees and nuttiness on the nose. On the palate this is quite fresh with lots of nuance. Plenty of energy and acid. Great balance between older notes of carmel, butterscotch and coffee with younger notes of lemon, apple, brioche and toast. Classic Salon texture.

Party at My Place: Candied citrus. Dusty brioche. Developed and mature. Somewhat reminiscent of an '83 I had a few months ago, although this is a little heavy tonight. Cotton candy was called across the table as a tasting note. A little more advanced and caramel than the best bottle I've tasted, but still pretty good. A lot of that cinnamon and spicy and grainy pear texture that makes these wines distinctly pleasurable.
