P: Gorgeous black and purple fruits with a deep pitch of brooding darkness. Nice and deep earthiness that cradles the fruits. Great freshness also helps bring some speed to the brooding darkness that the fruits have.

Wine-a-palooza (Jason's house): This did not see any decant, and frankly I don't think it needed it. There's a lot going on, nice relaxed tannins, red fruit, spice and earth. I think this is at peak and it will likely stay there for awhile, but I personally would not age this (or any Carter wine) for a long time.

Wine Palooza (Eagan, MN): A serious wine and big in style. Dark berries, dark chocolate, cherry, spice, earth, minerals and rose petals. This has a really long finish. This will age easily through 2035.

2017 Carter Wines (Envy Wines): This is perhaps a tick better than the OG, but shows a very similar profile. The sum of its parts here make for a nicely composed wine, with good depth, fine grained tannins, plush fruit and a deeper mid pallet than the rest. Like all these wines, there is a lot of black cherry to go along with cassis, blueberries, spice box and dusty earth. The redder fruit dominates, with excellent layering and focus. The finish is relatively long and the most composed of the group. This will get better. 95+

2017 Carter (Carter Cellars (Envy Wines) - Calistoga): Composed and alluringly poised when mirrored to its 2017 counterparts, the GTO lets you know it is showing up to the ball with a touch of class. Less concentrated and intense than the OG, but carrying a superior balance when compared to its siblings, the GTO delivers the goods in both flavor and equilibrium. Black cherry, raspberry, cassis, and some red and black licorice dominate. Finishes the smoothest in the lineup. Time in bottle will likely add further refinement, as well as focused depth. Hold for 3-5 years.
