Last bottle in a half-case. This wine has improved tremendously over the past 3+ years and is likely in its peak window now. Overall, the experience is consistent with previous notes, only there is more pronounced aromas on the nose, delineated flavors on the palate, a good balance of acidity, texture, and tannins, and most of all, the heat on the tail has disappeared. Lovely wine. Drink now.

Drank over two days. On night one it was still tight but brought nice candied red fruit which emerged after about an hour in the decanter. On night two it was mellow and settled. Still feeling the heat on the finish, but otherwise, a solid wine. I'd drink now through 2020.

Definitely improved since April. Dark ruby and medium-bodied. Nose of dried cherries, cinnamon, clove, and spice. Palate had a nice combination of cola and tart berries with some leather and a touch of rhubarb. Finish brought back that cinnamon and clove and was not as hot as before. This time I detected a refined ash, sand, dusty layer beneath the cinnamon and clove, perhaps from the volcanic soil, which added depth and complexity. Paired with left-over turkey/chicken casserole. This wine should continue to improve.

Improving. Still hot/unbalanced on the finish, but more candied fruit, wet earth, and a nice minerality emerging on the entry.

Maybe a bad bottle, but this had no structure and everything had deteriorated.
