Dark, deep red. A melange of red fruits on the nose with a hint of charcoal and cedar. Full an the palate with a mix of red and black fruit. Nicely balanced with integrated tannins and an acidic backbone. Nice full midpalate and long finish tapering into a very cbernet style finish with more current and graphite. I have never liked the combination of sangiovese blended with a dolop of cabernet because the transition from red to black fruit is never quite graceful but very abrupt. This is a typical example but as close as any that I have had to getting it right. Still, I would opt for a pure Sangiovese or merlot blend any day. A nice drink but any typicity is overpowered.

It was interesting to compare this wine with the Hess and Taurino - the leather and tar characteristics really popped. It had a solid core of fruit, but it was probably the least fruit-driven... but I thought it offered the most complexity tonight.

Really started revealing itself after 1h+ opening and peaked at 2h
Dried cranberries, ripe black cherry, plum, earthy, mushroom, licorice, chocolate, clove, oak, leather
Extremely long finish, mouth coating tannins which were a bit grainy at first

With aeration still tasted great. Good structure. Nice finish. Still some fruit.

WCC 1990 Tuscan Reds (Dorato's Resturant, Guilderland, NY): Sour cherry nose. Tart, sour cherry palate. Not very appealing.
