I am not ashamed to say that I love Barthod's wines. She is a true queen of Chambolle (for me), who makes classical CM wines, even if she does not hold GC plots. This particular wine is unquestionably great, but only for 30 minutes: dark cherry/violet/young leather/fresh raspberry on the nose + porcini/griotte/leaves on the palate. After that - it fades into pure earth/dust. Clearly, the sign of early picking in a poor year. But those 30 minutes!

This is my staple Burgundy red - not that it is affordable, but rather because this is the wine that continues to impress me without the prior need of making the local bank heist. I had 3 cases, and every time I pop up a bottle - I got new experience (during the past 10 years). The same (price/value) experience is shared with Faiveley's Corton 2010. This wine - classical good aged Volnay: old leather, violet, griotte and autumn leaves on the nose + sweet cherry/leaves/plum/minerals on the palate. Will hold for many years. 94+

Anne Gros' Vougeot '93 - that was the bug that bit me and converted to burgundies 17 years ago. I visited her domain many times, and always go to the cellar to check 20-30 y.old wines. Mesmerizing experience with old Riche or Vougeot. This particular wine is a different story. Was very much open 8 years ago but today it feels like it is as shut down as a fresh oyster. Given the decent acidity and unobtrusive tannins there is still hope that it opens up in time (10-15 years, no less) but right now - don't uncork. 91+(?)
