  • 2011 Château Suduiraut

Retasted from a bottle this time. Simply stunning. Classic Suduiraut nose and flavours.
    BLEND
    93 % Sémillon - 7 % Sauvignon Blanc
    AGEING
45 % in new barrels, 55 % from barrels of one vintage, for 20 months
    COMPOSITION
    Alcohol Content: 13.5° - Total Acidity: 3.5 - Residual Sugar: 148 g/l
    VINTAGE CONDITIONS
2011 was a year of contrasts. The mild, dry winter and spring led to very early growth of the vines. The summer in which cool, damp periods alternated with some very hot weeks mitigated this advance. Luckily a very fine month of September nonetheless enabled the grapes to ripen well.
Botrytis was present early on and we were able to start the harvest a month earlier than usual. They began September 12, to finish on October 5 with a total of 3 tries

C: med deep gold, hint of amber
N: full, unctuous yet still fresh, dried apricots, citrus zest, peach, caramel notes, floral, v intriguing
T: med/heavy body, rounded, v viscous, apricots, touch of citrus zest, long finish, v ripe, apricots, finishes on a dry note in spite of the high RS.
Overall, delicious if perhaps in need of a touch of acidity to lift it and for the long haul.

  • 2021 Alois Lageder Chardonnay Alto Adige - Südtirol Gaun

Really enjoyable. Not oaked at all, creamy and ripe. Good varietal flavours and acidity.

  • 2022 Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Deidesheimer Riesling

    vereinen.
LESE Selektive Handlese Ende September 2022.
    ALKOHOLGEHALT 12,0 % vol
    SÄURE 6,5 g/l
    RESTSÜSSE 0,8 g/l

C: v pale gold, bright, clear.
N: full, sl reductive at first, yeasty, then good ripe varietal notes, spice, greengages, citrus, a v dry nose with a touch of VA. Almost tertiray, petrol notes reminiscent of Clare Valley.
T: light body, rounded yet a touch assertive, the spice is more Rheingau than Pfalz, v ripe fruit, greengages, plums, med finish, q dry, crisp while full, greengages.
Overall, there is a clear drive to 0 RS at this estate and the result is that this becomes almost NW in its incipient tertiary notes v reminiscent of fine Clare Valley Riesling. It is atypical, not in a bad way. Whether it reflects the full terroir is another matter. An extreme oddity lacking some balance. You have to respect the approach as do its followers.
Postscript after theee hours: this has lost its NW tertiary notes and is now spicy with more resinous notes.,
