Tasty and drinking well w 5yrs age on it. Lots of apricot, soft pear, roasted lemon and something tropical, I like the subtle oak treatment here as well as the elegance bordering on decadence. A bit ripe and opulent for my everyday tastes, but well-made with good acidity and a touch of mineral to clean it up. I agree with others that it’s a tad hot ABV-wise.

I’d like to give this another whirl from a cooler vintage perhaps.

Absolutely perfect!!! This is drinking like a champ right now. Totally resolved, impeccably balanced, beautifully aged.

Decanted for an hour, but it tasted remarkably fresh when first opened. And for about an hour, delightful, deep red fruit and cab franc pyrazines seemed to dominate. For the next three hours it evolved quite steadily into a deeper-fruited, velvety wine of considerable body with some lovely chocolaty notes. As I approached the final glass (and hour 5 after opening), a delightful spice note took over - cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of espresso swirled with the fruit to create a truly heady wine.

All in all, this was magical. Really well made, and perhaps an exemplary bottle of what properly and thoughtfully aged wine can become.

If you have an 83…. Pop it now. It may last, but if it doesn’t, you’ll have missed a wonder.

  • 2019 Cattleya Pinot Noir Alma de Cattleya

Hands down one of the best Sonoma Pinots I’ve ever had. So precise, clean, and elegant. Gorgeous crunchy fruit, medium-voltage acidity, intimations of earth, stick, and stone. There’s nothing not to love here.

This wine simultaneously wakes up and bewilders the senses. It is young, but not naive. It gives immediate pleasure, but is not vulgar. I could go on with the waxing poetic…. It’s all I have as I refuse to vivisect my lovely experience here with the banality of academic tasting notes. So I’ll stop.

Did I mention I LOVE this wine?
