Brief notes, from memory. Fresh black fruits bancef by a tannic spine and medium acid, settled with 15+ years of age. Delicious with grilled ribeye and Spanish sausages.
I know it’s a cliché, but this for me was “Burgundian”.

Whoa. Dense powerful primary fruit, all ripe red cherries, earth and iron, spicebox, stems, perfumed aromatics. Medium+ tannic grip and medium acids. Last glass evolved to show some licorice, salt and a touch of tar. 13.5% Alc.
Every now and then you sip a delicate Syrah that is easy to confuse with Pinot, but this is the first Pinot I’ve had that tasted like a love-child of Nebbiolo…nothing delicate here.
This is a delicious glass with loads of good material to age well and interestingly, but I suspect it will be a polarizing wine; if ethereal and light-bodied are what you want from Burgundy, this ain’t it.

6/25/2021 9:38:00 AM - Ah well, red Burg is a heartbreaker for sure. Much more reliable pleasure to be found in Chard and Riesling I must admit.
I usually try to err on the side of generosity in my tasting notes, but I confess to a certain tetchiness when it comes to a bad bottle of red Burgundy. You might take vicarious pleasure in the one I wrote on 2009 Jean-Philippe Marchand Latricières-Chambertin

6/25/2021 2:32:00 AM - Comrade, thanks for your kind words on the Prum. Wonderful maker. I am a big fan of Black Oak Arkansas (the band, the town I do not know) and Georgia features in a memorable line from a song by the wonderful Blackfoot, so I feel doubly well disposed to you.
Whilst I really like Pinot, I have yet to find the magic in Burgundy (big fan of Chablis and White Burg, though). Closest I have come was some 1999 Dom. Robert Sirugue Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru 'Les Petit Monts". I have had much more pricy stuff, but that came closest to the ethereal, yet weighty quality one reads of. I look forward to going through your reviews to get some more guidance and salvation from my otherwise louche attitude to Burgundy.
4/1/2021 12:12:00 PM - Hi Pinot-Geek - Got your message- would really like to do that, but this weekend is a no-go for me. Soon! Let's touch base again soon.
12/23/2020 7:24:00 AM - Thanks for the heads up sir.
Do you remember much about the 19' 7 Springs Chard? I thought their 18' seven Springs Chard was a dead ringer for white Burgundy.
Best, S
12/23/2020 7:04:00 AM - Hi Steve, yes, we had some of the '19 Walter Scott wines at their virtual barrel tasting on 12/12. We had 4 of their pinot noirs (1 broke in mailing) and 4 chardonnay. We liked them all but placed orders for more of the X-Novo Pinot & Chardonnay, Sequitur, Sojeau, and Temperance Hill pinots, as well as the Freedom Hill Chardonnay.

A big bruiser now, rough around the edges now and Barolo-like, but a promising future ahead I think. Give it time to mellow out and try it after 2030.
