2016 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion

2016 Les Carmes Haut-Brion. Second glass coravined for my wife and I over burgers at home (first glasses were 30 days ago). Deep red fruit and crunchy soil. Very high toned green stem and whole cluster nose, nothing like a Bordeaux, again, like the winemaker’s Rhone roots. Next glass in another 30 days…94/100

2022 Suertes del Marqués Valle de la Orotava Vidonia V.P.
5/5/2024 - Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 93 Points
This took a good hour to open up, and then some, even after double decanting. Floral and hint of matchstick nose. Kiwi and mineral palate. Slight burnt notes. Drinks like a young top Chablis without the oyster shell notes. Very impressive but young next bottle later this year. 93+

1982 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle
5/3/2024 - Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 94 Points
A Private Rhone Paulee in London: This was served from two bottles. The first was a little over the hill, the second, which this note describes, was on point. Amazing aged green fennel. Green pipe tobacco. Sour cherry lozenge. Pretty good finish. Very similar to an aged Right Bank Bordeaux with Cabernet Franc notes. I’ve had better aged wines but this 42 year old Jaboulet was charming. 93-94 drink up
