2012 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut

I opened a bottle of this yesterday, for Mothers’ Day, without any prior experience with this vintage of this wine (have had '08 and '06), and found it exceptional and rewarding. Voluptuous and lively texture, complex fruit profile, balanced acidity to keep the wine from becoming ponderous, with a moderatly long finish. Yes, some sweetness but I’d expect that of any tete de cuvee with the typical higher dosage. For those looking to check in on these, I highly recommend its current phase.

2015 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille Vigne

Floral aromatics, black tea, orange peel, moist earthy nose. Most often for me, the nose of Burgundy really sets it apart from other Pinot Noir - on this wine, it's the texture. Texture is gorgeous - satiny with just the right amount of weight, it lies softly on your palate, keeping that gentle weight through the finish, lingering just enough. Great concentration of fruit. Black/blue fruited really pops into the finish. I wouldn't classify this as an elegant Burgundy, rather, a more muscular presentation with a build to the finish. Tremendously rewarding wine, a style I very much love.
