Medium-deep ruby color. Seductive nose of new leather, fresh and dried roses, cherry and raspberry fruit, vanilla bean, tobacco leaf, cinnamon, and pie crust. And faint woodsmoke. On the palate, still pretty bruising with aggressive tannin. Flavor profile leans toward dark chocolate, espresso, and sour cherry, but with some sweet spice and pie filling hiding underneath.
This is still quite forbidding, though it’s made progress since my first bottle about 11 years ago. I see some folks think it’s on the decline, but I’m still betting on improvement as the tannins continue to melt and the flavors keep developing. This bottle still has plenty of fruit to keep it going. I’m going to keep holding my last one.

No formal notes. Very good, rich and flavorful but not overdone.
