  • 2006 Geoffroy Champagne Premier Cru Terre Extra Brut

First opened was flat, not complex, short finish and nondescript. Meh. 88 points.

After 30 minutes improved. More brioche came out. Nice balance and decent acidity. Almond past finish. Far from a wow factor but a well made wine.

Seemed like it was wanting to be Krug but couldn't.

Generous 93 on a few sips. Mostly 92. After another hour or so it seemed to have gotten more austere. I'd say these are at the end of the plateau and drink em if you got em.

  • NV Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Les Crayères

    Disgorged Nov 2021.

Amazing how open and accessible this was, especially coming on the heels of a 2002 Lanson Noble which was tight, but opened gloriously thank you very much.

The Egly was pure class. The texture made this very special. Mousse, mousse, mousse! Brioche amazing tiny bubbles. Balance was spot on, didn't miss a beat from front, middle to finish. So harmonious.

Amazing rich color. Looked like least 20+ years. And was sooo smooth. Blind I would have put it as the 2002, and the 02 which was more bright and lucid, I would have put as the younger wine.

Go figure. What a treat. Obviously drinking in a great spot already. Will it get better w more cellar time? Hard to say. Maybe yes maybe no. Father time will dictate. Regardless, pop a cork and enjoy the ride!

  • 2002 Lanson Champagne Noble Cuvée de Lanson Blanc de Blancs Brut

    Hey now, you go Lanson!!

First opened and the general consensus, not drinkable. Finish fell off a cliff.

30 minutes later an entirely new wine. Then after an hour, hey now, this is frickin excellent! Could easily be 95. Even the Som was scratching his head at the transition. Nice, you could tell the BdB character screaming in a good way. Loved it.

Great drinking window at peak. But I don't see it falling apart anytime soon, should hold here a few years then start a gradual fade into the sunset.

1/27/2024 10:45:00 AM - Wow, sounds fun!! Appreciated the heads up. I haven't had Zinfandel in about 20 years lol, maybe more. I don't think I'll make it down this time, I'm in Napa. But please do keep me informed as to further tastings like this if you don't mind, I'd be most grateful. FYI, I had 2015 Bereche Ambonnay last night, stunning. Get some if you can find it. Also an 85 Jadot Corton which by luck was absolutely singing. Stay thirsty ))
