  • 2019 Vincent Pinot Blanc

Very tasty and plenty of life here. This Pinot Blanc has a gentle sweetness that's nicely balanced by some acid. Good body. Some interesting layers but not extraordinary depth. Perfectly enjoyable wine for a warm spring day. At 12.5% it goes down easy and is refreshing. I think there's several good years to go here.

  • 2016 Di Costanzo Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard

Truth is, there is very little fruit here that must be coaxed with an hour or two or air. It doesn't drink like a Napa Valley wine. The nose is Napa but the palate is far more Bordeaux than California. Better with food than on its own. At MOST the tannin, earth and minerals lead the way with fruit notes and elements mingling intermittently. It's earth forward. There's a place for it in the cellar but if you're looking for a typical Napa wine, this is not it. If you're looking for a balanced fruit-earth wine, this one leans greatly to the earth and tannin. It's BdxNapa.

  • 2019 Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard

Beautiful, layered, complex and totally cohesive. Was fascinating to learn from the review below that TRB considers this one of his best two wines he has ever made.

Nose of dark fruit, cedar, cigar, and acidic lift. On the palate, there is very dark fruit, leather, graphite, cigar box. A masculine Cabernet here but not overpowering at just 14.5% ABV. It's early for this wine. A little tight yet, but this will only evolve and improve. Will revisit in a year or two.

5/13/2020 12:12:00 PM - Thank you for your comment on my review of Aubert and recommendation. Generally, I prefer the French style of white burgundy. I also think Arnot Roberts is making the best of the non-heavy handed wines in CA. Same with Stony Hill. cheers!
