Bordeaux varietals, only; no Sangiovese. Minimal Italian terroir. It has a bit more fruit than many French Left/Right and a bit less than WA or CA…and less extraction than a Napa blend (to its benefit). Tannins are fine and well integrated. The finish is a strong suit.

Day 1: Not in a good place, with a pruney nose, very astringent tannins and little fruit; 85 pts. On day 2, the prune in the nose is still prevalent (ugh), but the tannins have toned down some, but still pretty drying on the finish. Fruit? Hmmm. Distant, overshadowed by the nose and not particularly interesting. Kinda drinkable…. The pros don’t think this has an extended life, but I don’t know what to do with the two in the cellar, but hold on to them for 5-10 years. Who knows?

2019 Prospice GSM

As close to CdP as WA GSM gets! Good structure marries flavor and depth. Some day I’ll try to describe it, but for now it’s simply enthralling.
