An old wine but much better than the last 1995 I had. Cork was crumbling but still fresh. Dark red colour with some slight aging. Smooth tannins. Some earthy dark fruit flavour but wood box and cigar. A very good wine that I liked

Its getting old. Could die very soon. very dusty aroma smelling of like a paper bag of earth covered potatoes. Started off very aggressive but lost its attack after a bit of air. It smoothed out and became drinkable after an hour in the decanter. really quite nice as time went on. Needs a big steak to keep it company. Some fruit and tannin on the palate but going away.

The wine was quite dark and showed some youthful vigour. With about 90 minutes of aeration in bottle, the wine opened up with more tobacco and capsicum. More of a traditional style, with good acidity and lower alcohol. No rush to drink this one is the bottles are cellared properly.

I feel this wine is over the hill. I found it uninteresting and with little to offer. It was not actively bad but there were no peaks or contours to its flavor. No interesting scents, either. In addition it has a muddy, swirly sediment which I feel is also indicative of a general collapse - crisp sediments equals crisp definition; both lacking here.

Mature and extremely powerful, full bodied wine, without being fiery. It just contains 12.5% alcohol according to the label. Still a good structure with softened tannins and some acidity. Would not keep my bottles much longer, if I had any. Decant only to get rid of the fine sediments. It does not need any air before poured.

Decant this wine for a couple of hours and the nose explodes with interesting aromas. Flavour is a little weak but it is 16 years old. The bouquet was quite a shock. I would have never guessed that it would improve over that many hours considering its age.

Drank over the course of two evenings. The first with a grilled ribeye - which it did really nicely with, the second 1/4 of the bottle tonight. Did not post the note taken 1st night - this note was taken 2nd night.
Lovely colour, still dark with a brick red rim. First night -nose was more dark cherry and currant, with only hints of mint. Very nice but not singing. Second night, the nose just explodes with sweet minty blackcurrant fruit - absolutely fantastic. First night, the palate but full and sweet but with a slightly acidic cherry note on the finish. Second night, lots of sweet blackcurrant and dark cherry fruit. Seamless with soft, barely drying tannins and a lovely dark cherry fruity acidity. This has really smoothed out and has a really long, long finish. Superb. Drinks very well just by itself.
This was an 89 pt wine yesterday with the steak. The extra time (bottled it up in a quarter bottle) obviously did it proud. This was a gorgeous Aussi cab. I remember having a couple of Wynns 1991 Coonawarra cabs that were similarily spectacular after 10 or so years in bottle.

No formal note. Cork broke in half. Poor quality.
