  • Pretty good. Open. Maybe not my personal favorite barolo. Herbal.

  • Really nice, very open and giving. Classic bouquet of dusty red cherries, with floral top notes, quite perfumed. Nice grip and brightness with enough fruit to be balanced and fun. As the critics love to say, drink or hold. 90+ pts.

  • Opened five hours before consumption. Brick red colour. The nose shows nice barolo typicity of dry flowers, tobacco, earth and iron nuances. Ripe, silky tannins and an overall balanced feeling. Quite enjoyable but not outstanding.

  • Beautiful, fine aromatics. Yes, rose petal gets it. Quite open for its age, I suspect reflecting 2013.
Fine, aromatic flavours with the tarry backbone. Very fine tannins and quite a deal of acid holding it. Medium weight.
I expect the approachability now is beguiling - it will age quite a long time.

  • Decanted, note made about an hour after opening and scored as excellent on Cellar Tracking point scale. I could have rated this a little higher as a value for money proposition, because I think it is outstanding on that measure.

Not a well known maker, but they have deep roots in the region, going back over a century. They are fastidious in their viticulture and make their wine in a style that lets the grape and region speak - i.e. they are not heavily extracted or oaked.

The colour is medium garnet, still quite bright.

The first thing that you note when you open the bottle is the wonderful Nebbiolo aromas that come wafting out of the bottle. Great 'typicity'. Tar and roses it is, though more roses and red fruit, with the tar/smokiness/earth a pleasing accent. There is some sweetness to the fruit aromas.

The palate is vibrant and the tannins, though plentiful are quite fine and seem ripe. This wine is young, yet in keeping with the vintage it is surprisingly approachable. I love 2013's for this reason. I doubt they will mature into classical Barolos, but they give you something delightful whilst the 2015's come around. The palate is very long and intense and the flavours are as per the nose. This would just love to be matched with a huge T-Bone or Ribeye on the Bone and that is just another thing to love about Barolo - it loves Beef and so do I.

  • Another 2013 red fruit mouthful - exceptionally well stored. To me no tar.no roses. Some black cherry on the nose, but it doesn't transition to the palate. Increasingly to me, modern Barolo is evolving into a fruit profile of a much larger version of Valtellina, think ArPePe Rosso di Valtellina. Red fruit dominant, no tar, and if there are roses, it is out on the far edge of the radar.
I'm thinking the difference beween modern barolo and old style is far more pronounced than is the case with Bordeaux and Red Burgundy.

  • Discovering Italian Wine Class @ The Texas Wine School. Med garnet. Clean, complex, with med + tart black cherry, ripe plum, medicinal herbs, black tea, dried roses, forest floor, leather mushrooms. Subtle oak spice from 18+ mos in very large French oak casks. Dry, with med + acidity, pronounced but fine tannins and high alcohol (14%). Full-bodied, very well balanced, with intense flavors and a long finish. It is just now entering its optimal drinking window and should show well for many more years.

  • Tasted blind from a vial. Med (-) garnet with rim variation. A hint of VA. Complex, with med + tart red cherry, cranberry, ripe plum, medicinal herbs, dried roses, forest floor, mushrooms. Subtle oak spice. Dry, with med + acidity, pronounced but fine, chalky tannins and high alcohol (14%). Full-bodied, very well balanced, with intense flavors and a long, savory finish. It is just now entering its optimal drinking window and should show well for many more years.

  • This wine pours a darker color that is a mix of purple and brown. Nose of mint and black tea with black cherry and cocoa. Entry is dirty raspberry, young tobacco, cherry blossoms, black tea, fig. Youthful. Middle is more black cherry fruity, but structured, structured, structured. And tight. Finishes with acidity, raspberry and black cherry backbone, walnuts, pepper. And oak. Still has a decade of life at a minimum. Drinking well, but if my will power can hold on to the others for another 5 years, it will be a 95 for sure.

  • The nose was deep and dark, with moist soil tones up front giving way to dried florals, crushed stone, leather, minerals and dried roses. It was vibrant and soft on the palate, on a feminine and lifted frame, showing pretty cherry, spice and floral tones before turning tart and drying due to youthful tannin. The finish was medium-long, resonating on pretty red fruits and inner herbal-rose.

  • Still tight and very dense, the wine opened up at day 2. Great tannin quality, lovely fruit, should go far...

  • Had to crack one of these after grabbing 6.
Lovely light textured barolo with stunning structure at its best on night three. Open next in 5 years earliest

  • First of six, wanted to get a gauge on this cru from this producer not having tried before.
Opened 3-4 hours prior to consumption / decanted about an hour before
Fairly dark in appearance, very youthful
Reticent nose, did not give much
    Red fruits, fennel, spices
Superfine tannin, silky smooth but still had grip
Quite fruit forward, yes almost succulent but without being overipe
Very approachable now, time will be kind though.
    Lovely, a keeper!

  • Roses, elegant red fruit again but this has more structure and higher acidity. The tannin is still very fine but more present than with the La Serra. Not as forward as La Serra but still early I would think. Very good balance and overall impression.
