Iberian Wimps (La Trompette, Chiswick): Pale straw. Nose is fresh - lime, herbal notes, quite pungent. Medium/full on the palate though, and surprisingly weighty, intense fruit, spice, crisp acidity, very long finish. Excellent.

GAAAAHHH! This was the white I was most excited about in my cellar. First time I've tasted it. And... it's very respectable, does all the right things. There's oak, there's weight, there's balance, but there's not much joy. A well-educated, serious-minded bottle. But it was more magistrate than magician. Disappointed Clarky, disapponted me. Not worth £30. Guess I'm now a little more educated about godello.

At Curate in Asheville. Rich aromas of apple, violets, smoked chili pepper. Rich deep tropical fruit on the palate with lively acids, vanilla aromas and briny flavors on the back.

I liked this wine a lot, however didn't wow me quite so much as the first time I tried it. Rubbery aromas initially which calmed down. Medium acidity, lime, stone on the taste. Quite lean - especially compared to the superior '15.

Pale yellow. Golden delicious on the nose and palate. The yellow apple aromatics are complemented with notes of spring flowers and the flavors with traces of moondust. Muted now, but I'm confident it'll be quite a treat in 2+ years when it opens up and hits its stride texture wise.

A private dinner (Restaurant Kabuki Wellington *, Madrid, Spain): Slight reductivity on the nose, ripe citrus, aromatic herbs, cool minerality, sea breeze, good depth, just a hint of new oak, well-delineated; the palate has a tight core of minerals and crisp acidity, but batonnage gives it extra weight and leesy complexity, salty and floral top notes; complete finish, judicious oak, very good length. A very precise wine of remarkable finesse. Godello at its finest.

Expressive nose with notes of smoke, green apple, fresh peaches, lemon peel and neutral well-integrated oak notes. In the mouth it is dry and crisp, refreshing, with a lot of concentration and an elegant lingering finish.

Smells smokey in a really good way. Palate is clean but quite full bodied, rich, but not sloppy.
