Very enjoyable Barolo but without the traditional markers. kDark fruit and some undergrowth mature notes on the nose. Well balanced, maybe a bit oaky (?) impression and warm finish. The tannins had softened considerably, though. I quite like the leaner 2008 profile compared to the 2007 which I found too heavy and rich. Drinks well now but will keep and probably improve from here. No rush.

Translucent red with some bricking. Not terribly complex, but very enjoyable. Notes of cherry, minerals and red licorice. Taut and structured on the palate. This has to structure to maintain this level for some time. Decanted 1.5 hours before consuming.

Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont; 10/5/2012-10/7/2012 (Piedmont, Italy): At the Cantina, with Davide Rosso Eclipsed by the beautiful Cerretta that we tried before, still this true to form pure, no oak, balanced Barolo with a lot of future ahead. Granted it is young and it could use another couple of years in bottle but still the fruit is their and so is the balance and elegance. Minerality, good acidity , firm but not harsh tannins and full of future. 91 for now but full of promise.

Very good, but a bit light on its feet for what I was expecting. Potential to improve with time.

Giovanni Rosso Tasting (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Tasting, brief note. Big fruit with equivalent structure. Similar to the 2007 La Serra, just less interesting or complex. Still quite powerful.

Lost my notes but I remember it was rather closed and tannic at this stage. Promising wine though.
