Friday, July 28, 2023 - The colour is notably younger looking than the wine’s age, still reasonably deep with moderate bricking. The nose quite changeable, initially more towards the redder fruit side, with some slightly greeney pepper notes, but then gravitating towards darker blackcurrant and plum with raspberry flecks and more of a savoury meatiness and some smoke. The palate beautifully combining a sweetness of the red fruit elements with the savoury elements of grilled meat, a hint of spices and a slightly grippy, chewy herb/woody note. A wine which combined beautifully robust elements with more delicate notes - and very distinctly Syrah, nothing like the Fonsalette normal. Showed better and maybe actually younger than the one from 5 years ago ****1/2
