5/24/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 89 pointsDiam. Nicely perfumed on the nose with bright red fruit, garrigue, mandarin oil, a hint of blood and bone, and stoney minerals. Acidity provides high notes and there’s a faint kick of some pithy tannins on the finish. Pretty well balanced with light to medium body. Despite it’s appellation, this will develop well and improved over a 8-10 years. |

5/23/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 93 pointsPerfect cork. Double decanted and left overnight. After the solid airing, this was in a great spot. Black berries, dark cherry and plum are rounded out with menthol, eucalyptus and a bit of aniseed and earth. Very tasty and the link between a plusher new world cab and the austerity of a traditional left bank Bordeaux. Tannins are mostly resolved and this is really velvety on the palate. Full bodied and excellent balance. Drunk over four nights and this continued to relax just a little each day. It’s clearly on the plateau and will easily stay there for another 10+ years. Really good! |

5/21/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 93 pointsA lovely mature Corton with a good dose of rust at the rim. Strawberry and cherry fruit on the nose and palate are rounded out with some beautiful tertiary flavours consisting of forest floor, some mossy notes, and dust. Just the slightest hint of some gentle VA, but it doesn’t detract from the pleasure at all. Excellent balance and fairly graceful for the appellation. Drink now and enjoy! |

2011 Domaine Bruno Clavelier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru La Combe d'Orveau Vieilles VignesPinot Noir more |
5/20/2024 - JonathanP Likes this wine: 94 pointsA quick double decanting three hours before drinking, with a glass saved for a second night. A seriously inviting nose of poached wild strawberries, ripe raspberries, and some subtle minerality and spices. Nicely balanced on the palate with excellent acidity and a lithe silky texture. Tannins are fine boned and mostly resolved, with just a touch of powder with a lick of grip on the finish. A wine that will impress those who like damn tasty burgs as well as those who like an intellectual beverage. Glass on the second day was a little more relaxed, and for me, even better. This has entered its plateau but if you like aged burgs, reckon it will evolve nicely for another 10+ years. |

5/20/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 92 pointsAt 10 years of age this beauty offers up crushed apple, pear, white and yellow stone fruits, smoked flint, citrus pith and a faint drizzle of grapefruit oil. Decent acidity on the palate which is a little nutty and very smooth. Nice focus and length. Ready to drink! |

5/10/2024 - JonathanP Likes this wine: 93 pointsSoooo good. If you can picture sucking on a river stone that’s been dipped in the ocean, drenched with zesty lemon juice and then sprinkled with orchard fruits, then you’ve got a good idea of this beauty’s flavour profile. The acidity is punchy and focused but the wine has a brilliant lithe texture that provides absolutely no sharp edges. Killer juice. OK, so it’s not the most complex white burg, but it’s a seriously gluggable drink. |

5/7/2024 - JonathanP Likes this wine: 93 pointsTightest cork ever, which came out, with some elbow grease, in pristine condition. Given a two hour decant and consumed over a couple of days. Looks its age in the glass with a mid garnet core and rusty rim. This beauty offers up dried cherries, red berries, cherry stone, florals, earthiness and some sous bois. Plenty of mouth counting minerals and some powdery tannic grip at the finish. Balanced and lithe. Lovely stuff. |

4/28/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 91 pointsDouble decanted and drunk over two nights. Plenty of jammy black fruit with liquorice, juniper, earth, graphite, leather, and some peppery spices. Clocking in at 14.9%, the high alcohol is very noticeable on the nose, palate, and sides of the glass. While it doesn’t stick out too much, it is warming and not my style. A big wine on the palate. It’s glycerol sweetness is punchy and while velvety, the tannins are still a little powdery. Not my cup to tea, but for those who like bigger new world reds, this is pretty good and ready to go with a good decant. |

4/24/2024 - JonathanP Likes this wine: 93 pointsDrunk over four nights and at its best on nights 3 and 4 when it had fully uncoiled. Really lovely notes of green apple, citrus, white stone fruit, pineapple, honey, mint, white flowers, and slatey minerals. Quite special. Took a bit of time to open up, really coming together by night 2 when the balance was en pointe. Drink now if you can let this sit open and breathe for hours, or better still, a day. |

2021 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay Vieilles VignesPinot Noir more |
3/16/2024 - JonathanP Likes this wine: 91 pointsA lovely clean, young, and vibrant Volnay that was consumed over 3 nights. On night 1, ripe raspberry, pomegranate and a twist of blood orange were the predominant flavours. On the following days floral and savoury notes of raspberry leaf, forest floor joined the party. Lithe, supple, juicy and pretty. It’s open now with fairly light and inviting tannins, but there is excellent and focus which suggests this will evolve nicely over the next decade. |

2/27/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 91 pointsSealed under diam. Fairly light gold-green colour, with citrus zest, orchard fruit, vanilla, and some hazelnut. There is a nice round texture to the palate, which is balanced by a zesty, minerally acidity. Drinking well already but has the stuffing to develop well over 10 years. |

2/25/2024 - JonathanP Likes this wine: 93 pointsGiven a 3 hour decant. Really clean and refined flavours of red berries, cherry, cherry pit, and rose hip. This is rounded out with some subtle pine resin, liquorice, and nutty notes which add a lovely layer or two of complexity. Bright acidity and minerality on the palate, which is really silky, and finishes with a solid tannic grip. My first 2020 Nebbiolo, and this is just wonderful! |

2/3/2024 - JonathanP Likes this wine: 93 pointsTime to check back in with this and it’s still a beauty. It hasn’t moved much since my last bottle - zingy citrus fruit with lots of rocks and salty minerals. Tight focus and drive with some lovely textural elements that softens the acidity. Brilliant. |

2004 Château La ConseillantePomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more |
1/29/2024 - JonathanP Likes this wine: 94 pointsDouble decanted for 5 hours before drinking. Excellent deep aromas of blackberry, black current, plum, cherry, cedar, liquorice, and some floral and earthy tones. Sophisticated and suave on the palate. Quite silky with just a hint of powdery tannins at the finish. Very good length and weight for the vintage. Drinking very well now, and having given this a good airing, I feel it’s drinking at it peak. A very classy Pomerol. There’s absolutely no rush with this, but at the same time, there’s probably no need to wait either. |

1/29/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 96 pointsServed blind and I was confident this was a graceful 25 year old 1re or GC Burgundy. A truly wow wine. Aromas of wild and musky red berries, cherries, some meaty and woodsy notes and a hint of minerally blood orange. This is beautifully balanced and so silky smooth across the palate. But best of all, it’s just incredibly interesting. Deep, weighty, and engaging but with excellent acidity to keep it fresh. A lovely structure with fully resolved tannins. All these elements have blended together to form a rounded wine of absolute harmony, all at just 12.8% alcohol. This is an epiphany level wine. Thanks Cliff! |

2020 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Chavignol RoséPinot Noir more |
1/27/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 92 pointsMy first Cotat rose, and what a wine it is. Like no other rose I’ve had. For a start, this is an electric, bright coppery pink in the glass. Then on the nose, it offers up lovely red berries, floral notes and a touch of minerality. Powerful and energetic on the palate, and thanks to the 15% alcohol, there is an incredibly textural and viscous glycerine mouthfeel. It’s still pretty fresh and nicely balanced. A wow wine and just lovely. |

1/23/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 92 pointsFirst look in at this beauty in 4+ years and it does not disappoint. A linear citrus core is rounded out with crisp apple, white peach, tropical fruit, floral honey notes, talcum powder and plenty of slatey minerals. Excellent balance between acidity, fruit and sugar, and while very much a Kabinett, this has good weight on the palate. Drunk over three days and it was fairly open from the get go but fully open after couple of hours in the decanter and then didn’t shift much over three days. Killer stuff. |

1/20/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 90 pointsBest bottle of this Cote de Brouilly to date. Everything has come together very nicely and all the elements are integrated and in perfect balance. Lots of juicy red fruit with good minerality and perhaps a little less of the briar notes of previous bottles. Smack bang in the middle of its drinking window. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 2021 Domaine Thomas Morey Bourgogne BlancChardonnay more |
1/18/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 90 pointsA fabulous Bourgogne Blanc that seems to have put on a little more weight that it’s last showing 6 months ago. The is just lovely right now with white orchard fruits, some citrus notes and a hint of toast. Very generous on the palate for the level which has a fairly plush mouthfeel balanced by focused acidity. No harsh edges. A must buy. |

12/31/2023 - JonathanP wrote: 91 pointsFour hour decant. While still a bit tight, this started to open nicely and and reveal bright red fruits, grilled capsicum, earthy notes and some tobacco-like herbs. Fine acidity and minerality is accompanied with moderate tannins that are starting to resolve. Drink after a good decant or hold. |

2013 Pierre Gonon St. JosephSyrah more |
1/6/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 93 pointsConsumed over 2 nights, this is an excellent Gonon. Started out a little tart, but improved over time, coming nicely into balance. Lots of black cherry, red berries, smoked meats, earth, and dried herbs on the nose; flavours that are reinforced on the palate along with a hint of ground pepper and stoney minerality. Relatively taut on opening, but relaxed nicely over 24 hours. The tannins, which were initially powdery, became more integrated the next day, to the point I’d even call this silky. A wonderfully transparent and precise St Joseph. |

1/3/2024 - JonathanP wrote: 92 pointsBright ruby-garnet in the glass. High quality cherry, red berries, pomegranate, granite, and some underbrush. It’s wonderfully fresh and bright. While ripe, this Cote du Py is classic in its flavour profile with tart zip and focus. Lovely now with a 30 minute decant but will evolve nicely over the next 12 years. |

12/27/2023 - JonathanP wrote: 92 pointsFantastic QPR. Packed full with focused citrus fruit, pear, saline, and river rocks. Superb balance. Bone dry but with decent sweetness from the fruit. Just lovely now but I suspect this will age nicely over a 10 year period if you can keep your fingers off it. |

12/25/2023 - JonathanP wrote: 93 pointsSlow ox for 5-6 hours before drinking. Tart but ripe cherries with plenty of stony minerals, loam, and a piney resin/menthol note across the palate. Very silky with some tannic grip at the back end. A wine that is simultaneously lithe and powerful. The fruit brings an initial sweetness with some menthol and piney bitterness on the finish but this is more about the acidity. There is excellent balance though and drive across the palate. I found this an intellectual wine that I had to come to, to fully appreciate, rather than one that immediately offers up all its treasures. Excellent now but I suspect it will be better in 5 years time. |

12/23/2023 - JonathanP wrote: 94 pointsDouble decanted for 3 hours before we started drinking it, and it was consumed over a long 5 hours. Pristine cork. On the nose and palate there is bright red and black Syrah fruit, pepper and other spices, herbaceous earthy flavours, and some floral notes. A touch of game too. For the first hour or so this was fairly tight but opened nicely over the following 5 hours. It’s initially very silky across the palate until the very grippy and powdery tannins kick in. Very long. A classy effort that is both an intellectual wine and one that is lovely to taste. |
