2018 Martinelli Pinot Noir Wild Thyme Vineyard Fort Ross - Seaviewmore |
5/19/2024 - SMHalps Likes this wine: 92 pointsMy second bottle of this vintage, and somehow not as impressive as the first one. Part of an American Pinot Noir night with 8 members of my wine group. It was opened, but not decanted for over an hour before pouring. It just tasted a little too young for me. All fruit, not much else. Around the 3 hour mark thought, it really opened up. I'll save my last bottle of this vintage for at least a year. As with a lot of Martinelli Pinots, it had a full body, a longish finish, and a great nose. |

5/18/2024 - Thief Likes this wine: 92 pointsVery ripe style with black cherry aromas and pencil shavings. As this has aged a bit more, I’m not as big of a fan. I think this was better a year or two ago. |

5/14/2024 - John McCabe wrote: 92 pointsThis was quite pleasant, though am surprised to see it cost me $67 after tax from the winery - not cheap. This was surprisingly open and light on its feet - I was expecting more structure - I would not wait longer to open this. Has the briary savory tones I come to expect from a zin, but this also has significant sweetness, lift brightness. There is plenty of charm here, though feels too pricey. |

5/12/2024 - travelme Likes this wine: 94 pointsEven better than the last bottle. See previous notes. This wine was absolutely terrific and had this hint of sweetness on the backend that was a little more pronounced than the last bottle. My beautiful wife selected this for mothers day. My last of three original bottles. Every Martinelli I have had with a few years of age has been incredible (from their entry level to the upper end wines). I really appreciated this. Could drink this every night. |

5/12/2024 - LesPaul Likes this wine: NRShowing its age, mostly in a good way. This was/is a huge wine, but somehow not quite unbalanced - really (barely) holds on to some sense of a whole. In mid-2024 you still get lots of Russian River cola and more than a touch of Green Valley edge, with a lot of luscious fruit hanging on top. The body on this one has not yet grown particularly blowsy. It's a fun, extreme wine that has successfully threaded the quality needle. But I probably wouldn't risk many more years in the cellar..... |

5/12/2024 - Brian of Mull Likes this wine: 91 pointsColor is medium gold. On the nose: Apricot, marmalade and mineral notes. On the palate: Apricot, brown sugar and marmalade. Very good value for money. I bought 2 bottles. I will seek out other vintages. I like dessert wines, buy good ones, but only drink on rarely as they are a bit pricey. It’s not a Sauternes or a Vin de paille , but is a good wine. |

5/7/2024 - air guitar & pinot noir Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis certainly has improved in the short time from our last bottle. This presents dark, black fruit but with an incredibly smooth arrival on the palate. Fresh and perfect weight with nice spice notes. Beautiful fruit is the primary headline now, but this has a longer runway ahead. Another definite Pinot winner from Martinelli! |

5/6/2024 - Francophile1 wrote: NRI’m not going to give a rating to this wine because I know for many they will really enjoy it. However, for me and my palate, this is an over-the-top expression of the Pinot Noir grape varietal that makes it really difficult to enjoy. This is an extracted New World, black cherry cola unctuous wine that can stand up against any cut of beef. This is a Cali Cab lovers Pinot. For New World aficionados who love this style of wine, this wine was made for you. You could almost drink this wine with a fork and a knife… it is so thick and heavy. I would love to know what Lalou Leroy would think of this wine? |

5/5/2024 - Ex-Ray Likes this wine: 94 pointsFirst of four bottles tasted. Ruby, medium dark but some translucency. Excellent zin aromas of mostly red fruits. Young, fresh flavors, some heat from the high alcohol but did not detract. We still slightly prefer Turley's Dusi and Ueberroth but this was in the same class. It did not change when we finished it the next night. |

5/5/2024 - Mortgage92 Likes this wine: 93 pointsMore life in the bottle, but drinking very well now! Outstanding zin (holds in the tug-of-war with Ridge). A little more fruit forward than Ridge with a little less pepper, but still a slight smoke flavor and aroma. Paired this with some bar-b-q chicken and worked beautifully. |

5/4/2024 - Brian of Mull Likes this wine: 93 pointsPnP. Color is deep ruby/purple. On the nose: Raspberry, pepper, sour funk, dark chocolate and pepper. On the palate: Raspberry, dark chocolate, cassis, a bit of pepper. Some alcohol heat. This is a very tasty wine. I am not a fan of the high alcohol (a common issue with Martinelli Wines) but the flavors are very nice. Just have to drink a bit less. |

5/3/2024 - MicklethePickle wrote: 92 pointsI have never aged a Martinelli Pinot Noir for anywhere near this long. So I was interested to see how it developed. The color is certainly suggestive of a young wine as is the nose. It is only on the palate where the forward fruit has been tamed somewhat. I am not really sensing a whole lot of secondary characteristics which bodes well for a long future ahead. This tends to prove to me that wines that are rich and alcoholic in their youth can indeed age. However, I’m not sure I’m enjoying this more than I would have in it’s youth. I wish I had another bottle to age another 10 years to compare. 5-13-16-8: 92/100 |
