Toasty, yeasty, white florals, apple and pear with a light touch of a herbal note as well. The palate is honeyed and has really nice depth and good acid cut still in place. Drinking well now.
Blind. Spice, lemon, waxy and nutty with some floral and earthy notes as well - very nicely complex nose. Good length and intensity on the palate, there is still good brightness to the fruit. Improved further in the glass, with extra lift and character. Excellent stuff.
Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Nagambie Lakes
Blind. Lots of apricot, wax, some ashy and herb notes as well give it some extra interest. Feels quite ripe and rich on the palate, there is quite a lot of punch to the fruit. In a good spot for drinking now. One of the better old Tahbilk Marsanne that I've had.
Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley, Belford
Very light colour. Lime, white florals, pear and some smoky flint. Youthful on the palate, this has very good acidity but also has some layers to it showing the benefits of age. Still plenty of potential here, this was a good step up on another bottle I had a few years ago.
France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières-Coulée de Serrant
Blind. Oxidative, nutty, truffle, quite herbal throughout as well. The palate has some sweetness to it, but the acidity kicks in well and gives it focus. Another wine that improved well with time in the glass, showing a bit more fruit and depth. Drink now after giving it a little air.
Blind. Mint, mocha, cherry and tar. A herbal streak across the palate, there is some dense fruit as well that gives it some younger character. Much much better than a previous bottle 10 years ago, but lacking a little in excitement overall.
Earth, cherry, tar, graphite and cedar aromas. The palate is quite light in style, with some delicate fruit and some good structure still. Moderate depth, it is a touch better than a bottle from last year.
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Blackcurrant, dusty, eucalypt, tobacco and graphite on the nose. Lovely mix of red and black fruits on the palate with a savoury element throughout. Has great poise and balance. Really good stuff.
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Blind. Graphite, blackberry, mint, earth and cedar. I really like the structure on this, the fruit is fresh but it has great focus. Has good lift and plenty of potential for further development. Consistently very good across bottles tried over the last 10 years.
Salami and fennel on the nose. Very soft on the palate, the structure has fallen apart a bit. Just a bit too far gone to get enjoyment out of it, but still worth trying.
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Blind. Cherry, tar and toasty oak. Bold on the palate, with plenty of tannic kick - bold and youthful black fruits fill the mouth. Another 4-5 years would definitely serve this well.
Blind. Smoke, raspberry, menthol and spice. Bold fruit flavours, still showing good structure and balance, it could definitely use a bit more complexity but it is drinking well anyway.
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Blind. Meaty, graphite, plum, vanilla and blueberry. Rather sweet fruit on the palate, there is a nice savoury element as well that gives it a bit more interest. Drink now.
Nutty, orange peel, straw, sherried notes and saline notes with sea spray and iodine. Full flavoured and intense on the palate, this has great length and depth. Remains very fresh throughout, the oxidative notes are integrated rather than dominating. Excellent wine.
