  • 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage Blanc Chevalier de Sterimberg 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Dark yellow. Mature bouquet; call it oxidized if you wish. On the palate it is mature, but no sign of oxidation. Yellow fruits, limestone, some spiciness. A little bitterness and beautiful acidity in the finish. Full bodied, elegant, refined and complex. Beautiful wine. Completely ready now.

  • 1997 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc De L'Orée 95 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Outspoken and expressive bouquet with fresh yellow fruit flavors, anise, mineralty and even some laurel. It is still very youthful. A mouth full. Focused and rich with beautiful freshness and complexity. Still very youthful on the palate as well. A truly great wine with many years ahead.

  • 1997 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 96 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Beautiful and rich bouquet with bananas, honey and a lot of minerals. Same on the palate. Spiciness as well. Extremely tasteful, focused and complex. A beautiful, luxurious and rich wine which is ready now but can last a few years as well.

  • 2000 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc Le Méal 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Just in the glass the wine was locked, but after a while it opened up a bit; yellow fruits, minerals, some honey and beautiful freshness. On the palate the wine is still somewhat locked, but it has the same impressions as in the nose. Also spiciness and a touch of licorice. Still a bit too young. Next try around 2015? My score for now was 92, but there is potential for more.

  • 2001 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Complex and rustic mature bouquet. Minerals, spiciness, red as well as black fruits, a bit earthy, metal as well. On the palate Earthy and rustic as well. Good acidity and a touch of sweetness. Juicy fruits and minerals. Animals. Ready now but still powerful. A beautiful, concentrated and classical wine. Ready now but with enough power to last at least another 5 years.

  • 2001 Domaine Santa Duc Gigondas Prestige des Hautes Garrigues 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas

Beautiful bouquet with a touch of pleasant barnyard, spiciness, complexity and refinement. On the palate the wine is rustic and juicy with beautiful complexity. A very complete wine. Concentrated and tasteful. Mature and with so much power left. Full bodied and also elegant. Already so nice but intriguing as well. This is a great beauty now and my blind score was higher than ever before. Great I have a few bottles of this beauty! Drink between now and the next 5+ years.

  • 2001 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Beautiful bouquet with still loads of fruit, spiciness and elegance. Juicy fruits on the palate. A touch of sweetness and soft and round tannin. Elegant. Also a slight touch of oxidation. Overall this is a great wine, but it lacks something. Hard to describe what. Tension? Not as complex as one hopes for? Nevertheless still an excellent wine.

  • 2001 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Centenaire

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Smoky bouquet with some alcohol. Not really pleasant. On the palate very ripe black fruits. Concentrated, some sweetness and also a lot of acidity and overall not really pleasant. I did not make more notes, but was a bit shocked when it was revealed this was a Centenaire. Considering my previous note from 2007 this wine was more than ok then, so I hope this is an off bottle. No score.

  • 1999 Domaine de Bonserine Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

A strange wine. Although there is a lot to smell and taste, the bouquet as well as the taste are not completely fresh. Not corked. Anyway; the bouquet shows a lot of barnyard and in the mouth a lot of juicy fruits like blackberries and soft tannin, but there is no freshness. Not sure what to think of it. No score.

  • 1999 Domaine des Rémizières Hermitage Cuvée Émilie 90 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Powerful bouquet with dark fruits and spices and a touch of barnyard. Juicy black fruit juice on the palate. Good acidity and round tannin. A bit drying in the finish. Medium long finish. Excellent wine although I am less impressed than in 2009. Does it need more time in the cellar?

  • 1997 Ojai Syrah Cuvée Henry Daniel 94 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley

Beautiful bouquet with a touch of pleasant barnyard and spiciness, some licorice as well. Even though there is a little alcohol in the bouquet, you can keep on sniffing and enjoying! On the palate the wine is silky soft, with beautiful fruit juice, tannin and bitterness. The sweetness tells this is not European. This is a full bodied, friendly and round, beautiful wine with a lot of elegance as well. Completely ready, but no hurry imho.

  • 2009 Henrik Möbitz Ehrenstetter Ölberg Pinot Noir

    Germany, Baden

Elegant red forest fruits like strawberries and raspberries. Soft acidity. Full bodied (for a German wine) and elegant. Definitely an ok wine. No score, because my palate was not clean enough at the moment of tasting.

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Elegant and complex bouquet with minerals and black fruits. On the palate ripe black fruits and minerals as well, some chocolate and tobacco as well as garrigue. Good fresh acidity and tannin which is a little bit drying in the finish. Juicy and complex wine with still a long future. 92+

  • 1999 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Méal 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Rustic bouquet with a touch of barnyard and still a bit reticent. On the palate juicy red as well as black fruits, licorice, a touch of sweetness (from the alcohol?) and firm, still sticky tannin. This wine is still much too young.

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Beautiful and complex bouquet with minerals, smoke, tobacco, leather and garrigue. On the palate cassis, licorice, vanilla and dark chocolate. Beautiful fresh acidity, a touch of sweetness and also firm tannin. Although it is beautiful now already, it will definitely improve with more ageing. Next try not before 2018.
