I had the 2003 vintage of this wine the other night. I think this vintage has held up better. The 1999 had more red fruit than the 2003 (which had more dried fruits). Fine grain tannins, but high acid. Good ruby colour with a little brickishness. Still delicious.

3 hours in a decanter. Garnet with browning at the edge. Musty nose that blew off after an hour. Long palate. Dark fruit with tomato leaves. Still plenty of acid. Ripe plumbs, blackcurrant, soy sauce and tobacco. A very interesting Wynns black label.

The aroma takes some coaxing, but after about 1 hour it shows relative vibrancy, freshness, and complexity. Blackcurrant, dark chocolate, cured meat/grilled sausage, tobacco, tomato leaf, dusty cedar cupboard, and soy and star anise in the background.
More subdued blackcurrant with tobacco, redcurrant, and soy on the drying palate that finishes savoury with a firm acid and prominent yet powder-textured tannins.
Opinion: Seemingly middle-aged in its flavour profile, yet I’m not convinced that additional time will provide beneficial development. It lacks some palate depth and refinement to warrant risking further fruit loss to gain more tertiary complexity. Good value, as always, but not this wine’s greatest vintage.

Lovely mature Cabernet, with hints of sweet fruits and port on the nose. On the palate smooth, and elegant rather than powerful.
