Velvet, tannins resolved, very little sediment, indiscernable oak, in prime shape 20+ years in. Not overly extracted, 14.1% alc. Purchased at Cakebread tasting room in Napa in 2004, cellared in temperature-controlled storage, removed two weeks ago, did not decant. Very pleasant surprise how well this has held up.

I agree with Meatbomb's review. Still plenty of life left in it! 3 more years easy. Try it out of the bottle and then decant for at least an hour or two and taste it along the way! Gets better and better! Luckily I have 2 more and will let them sleep. The KL wine tasting notes says it all! The product of a superb red wine vintage in Napa Valley, Cakebread Cellars 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon is a wonderfully rich, ripe wine with a nearly opaque ruby color and a seductive aroma of ripe, lavish black cherry and currant fruit enhanced by cedar and toasty, vanilla oak tones. On the palate, the wine's lush berry and cassis flavors are impressively broad and deep with supple, seamlessly integrated tannins and a lusciously rich finish

I bought this bottle in 2006 and have been holding out on drinking it as I have very few 2001s left. 50th birthday seems like a special occasion worthy of one the older wines that I have. I expected little, thinking that this would be way past prime drinking window. In fact, this is in a perfect place today. Very mild bricking st the edges. Otherwise deep ruby in appearance. Plum and blueberry on the nose with a hint of spice. Medium body with a hint of tobacco and leather backing some primary blue fruit. No hint of oak a d tannins have fully integrated. The finish is moderate in length. I wish I have 3 more of these to try over the next 6-10 years.

Surprisingly still strong. Was a little worried with the drink by date but it's fine.
