From a split. The color is fine but the wine is totally reductive and smells like animal feces. I've had this wine in the past and I have more so I hope its just this bottle.

A bitter disappointment (please excuse the pun). It has been about 3.5 years since I first checked in on this wine. At that time it was mysteriously lean and showing quite high acid. But the purity of the wine, and especially the nose, gave me some hope that the wine was in a phase. Plus, who could blow the '98 Bolgheri vintage? Well these guys did. This wine has lost more fruit over the last few years, and now reveals an even less balanced mouth-puckering acidity. I must now conclude that this wine is dying a premature and graceless death. If you got 'em, first I express my condolences. Second, I strongly urge you to drink now. Or if you wait about 2 years at this rate, you'll have some fine red wine vinegar to cook with.

This was from a split. Medium dark garnet color. Nose of red berries, cassis and saddle and tar. Still very unevolved and tight. Good soft tannins but somewhat unevolved acid profile. Really nice wine that needs food. Suave wine. I would not touch a bottle for another couple of years.

New Year's Day Long Italian Lunch (Eketahuna, New Zealand): Purple ruby lightish. Bright tart cherry and tar - very tannic and acid - very tannic finish - out if balance - hard as nails.

This wine was totally over the hill. It was from a split but it should look better than this.
