Opened about two hours before the first glass was poured; the cork was saturated almost two-fifths the way up. Once in the glass, we witnessed a dark garnet hue with that telltale brownish edge that give BdM half of it's name. There was definitely some sediment in there too. An initial mustiness on the bouquet gave way to a very pleasing aroma of cedar box that reminded me of a dry Finnish sauna that might be set on a glacial lake outside of Mikkeli. The fruit smelled about like I would expect from such a hot vintage: a bit stewed...but in a pleasant way...almost like when in the process of making jam at home. A welter weight with a pleasant mix of fruit and earth on palate. Dark fruit, espresso, some anise and maybe a slight touch of cocoa. Great acidity. Worked awesome paired with our simple arrabiata sauce over pasta. What a nice bargain Brunello.

Tuscany and Southern Italy (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had a lot of blackberry mixed with loam mixed with almonds. There was also some spice and vanilla. The palate was soft and pleasantly light. It had blackberry and coffee, some dirt, and a slightly nutty finish.

Wine still has great acidity with black berries, black cherry, black tea and a hint of cocoa.
