  • Really, really good! Complex yet elegant, and great texture. Rich and fresh, not too heavy or sweet. The palate was the highlight with earthy notes, currant, herb and finishing with slight hint of caramel. Great by itself and with food. Would definitely buy again.

  • What a chocolate monster on day one! This did not hold up on the second day however... acetone on the nose. Out of a case of this, stored from day one in perfect conditions, 5 bottles have been consumed, and bottle #2 was corked/oxidized at opening. I absolutely love the Spring Valley wines, but I am putting this batch of K on watch. Anyone else with similar experience on the 07 K?

  • Initially relatively mute but with air (decanted for 30 min.) it began to open up revealing bold dark berry flavors. Really very primary both in flavor and aromatics. On the finish, however, a wave of unintegrated oak crashes the party. At this stage, this Katherine is as intense and full bodied (and alcoholic) a Cabernet Franc as I've ever tasted. This wine beckons to be cellared for at least another 18-24 months. I was hoping this would be an enticing introduction to Walla Walla Cab Franc for my guests, but it seems to be in an awkward stage. If memory serves me correctly, when this wine was released in the late summer of 2009 it was in a more appealing stage, a bit more forthright and without as much of the apparent oak flavors. The high alc. (15.3%) was not apparent, which was a real relief, though it may become more apparent as this wine evolves with age. A bottle of the 2002 I had last fall was in a very nicely evolved, if not so intense, stage. So don't hesitate to place a bottle or two deep in the cellar for the midterm. If drinking now give it a 1-2hr decant.
