  • Oh golly, it's like yesterday. I mean that literally. Yesterday was beautiful, warm, sunny, perfectly spring, a day of fantastic weather and me on spring break, hanging out with the kids. Today: cold and gray again, with my impending unemployment driving me to the blues. Gamay to the rescue! But this is like some sort of Olympian essence of Gamay, as if it sprang from the soiled fingers of Bacchus himself. Red joy.

The Cote Roannaise is on the upper reaches of the Loire in Auvergne, which is to say, in the middle of France and, a good ways south of the other Loire Valley appellations we know and love...and close to Beaujolais. The 2007 Pothiers is pure and clean, but energetic and interesting as well. Fruit and minerals, with good structure, and a bracing briskness. A great accompaniment for tonight's sausages. Supple and fresh and so, so easy to drink ... oh golly.

  • Lovely wine that reminds us that summer will be here again shortly. Light color, good viscosity. Some complexity on a light roasted floral nose. This fruit-forward Gamay is well balanced with plentiful acidity, a great food wine. Flavor profile consists of raspberries with a hint of lime. Have it with oily fish, mackerel or bluefish.
