This bottle was out of condition, perhaps due to poor storage at some point during its lifetime. It was a recent acquisition from Benchmark, and the wine is dark yellow in color with an overwhelming butterscotch flavor like what one finds in oxidized white Burgundy.

Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Aged champagne is always fun and this was no exception. It’s just starting to show the secondary notes. Crisp and brioche and bright. Somehow not quite the complexity you’d hope for (more one dimensional), but still tasty.

No formal notes but this was absolutely fabulous. Aged champagne is really something else. Minimal bubbles, beautifully complex with a nice acidic backbone. Buy one if you can get your hands on it.

Nose of lemon with some green herbs in the background, providing freshness but also points to the fact that the phenols were probably not fully ripe. Nevertheless, this was gone in less than 20 minutes so fresh and easy to drink it was. A wine disappears fast is always a great sign. It never happens to thick bruisers.

Golden lemon. Tiny bubbles. Much more secondary than primary on the nose and palate. Huge amounts of savoury, brioche, marzipan and nuts. Lots of acidity and long finish. So substantial and full bodied, quite Bollinger in style.
The one concern I had on this was whether heat damaged, as it did seem exceptionally mature.

(Gosset Champagne Célebris) Light medium yellow color with few tiny bubbles; focused, ginger, dried lemon, cherry cough syrup nose; tasty, maturing, lemon, lemon drop palate with medium acidity; medium-plus finish 92+ points
(CELEBRIS Gosset) Celebris Dear Friends, With all the Champagne offers lately, I’ve received a lot of requests for this wine - one of the highest scoring of Burghound’s review (next to Krug and a few others). Anyone that has had the pleasure of tasting this wine will be hard pressed to deny it’s greatness (at least from a textural and feminine/power point of view). Wine like this separates itself from the rest of the pack by being everything that so many are not - regal, understated and deceptive but still shimmering with life. The Grand Millesime is fabulous enough but the Celebris is a special occasion wine: We have a great price on this wine, what should be one of the lowest in the US all with perfect provenance. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for that special something that is hard to describe ONE SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the winery cellar EXTREMELY LIMITED at this price: 1998 Gossett Brut “Celebris” (Grand Cru) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Champ2400
