Dec22- Screwcap. Aged yellow. Reductive opening, peach pie, sweet apple and a lemon-sherbet quality. Stone fruits and oak dominate the palate with a preserved lemon peel note at the backend. Medium+ Acid which provides some needed counter-balance. length is long. It’s a big bold oaky fruit salad of a chardonnay, that did overpower the roast chicken that accompanied it for lunch. Doing well for 14 years, certainly not a shrinking violet (nor is it intended to be). Meursault-esq in a hot vintage typicity. 91-92

BBC Long weekend 2021; 6/11/2021-6/13/2021: pure clean nose, perfectly integrated, no obvious oak, fresh fruit flavours, very typical, fleshy, light spice, drinking beautifully.

Straw gold with a green edge. Strong ng fine oak, well integrated with white flowers and honey. Powerful ripe fruits, very well integrated oak and spice. Smooth texture, smooth long finish. Beautifully aged, no hint of oxidation, just honey, toast, a little butter. At a great point.

I had reviewed this bottle previously in which I mentioned the wine was excellent but not outstanding. Well, I had another bottle last night it was an outstanding experience. Beautiful nose, full of nectarine, honey and melon. Body had a depth of complexity that lingered on long after the wine had disappeared. Great acidity and minerality and just so well integrated. A truely world class Chardonnay. For $70 retail 12 years ago, it is a steal. Drink now or 5+ years (for screw cap bottles at least). Lesson learned, bottle variation does exist with screw caps.

Grand Cru Chardonnay (The four seasons hotel, the rocks, sydney): Slight cork taint, butter, minerality, ripe stone fruit, slight honey, bruised apple, with time the cork taint grows. cork taint translates to the palate. Flaw.
