  • Some barnyard when first poured, but it blew off. Blood, iron, tobacco on the nose, but still plenty of fruit (figs, dark plums with mascarpone) and acidity on palate. Not as much heat as I expected given the abv. Overall, seems like a classic CdP in a rustic style, which I prefer.

  • Another beautiful old-vine Grenache! The Cuvée Spéciale is bottled separately from the Vieilles Vignes because it has a more sauvage, rustic character. After 20 years, it sill pack a wonderful punch :)

  • Expressive nose displaying ripe black fruit, black cherry, blackberry liqueur, strong tobacco and garrigue rare steak, cinnamon, brown sugar and earth. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of ripe black fruit, dense and rich yet silky, medium acidity, earthy mineral, a hint of fine tannins and a long ripe black fruit driven finish with tobacco and garrigue at the end. This bottle shows more tobacco and garrigue, i.e. classic CDP profile, compare to the bottle from April, 2019. Still showing ample fruit but no need to wait.

  • CT tells me that I had this wine last in 2009. It is now very smooth texturally, resolved, not much evidence of wood or stems, just smooth and mellow and showing some dark fruit reduction on the palate. Not much detail, one-dimensional, no complexity, but smooth on the palate. With home-made braised short ribs, a trial run before Thanksgiving. Bottle gifted by Jim W and opened with Andy K.

  • Vinetasters: Is it ready? (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Nose with a slight bit of cherry and licorice. On the palate, fairly low on the acidity with a little bit of a cloying character. Some more cherry; high-toned, with alcohol sticking out quite a bit. My 6th, group's 5th.
