Maya presented (18-20 DVO) to a small group while in Houston for the Southern Smoke Foundation.
Of the mini vertical I gravitated to 18 for it's tension and 19 due to it's approachability. 20 was an easy drinker but overshowed in the lineup.
Maya walked us through her story and how DVO "DUO" came to be a project and some of the vineyards the fruit is sourced from.
This 2020 exceeded expectations and presented itself very well in the lineup. Very pleasurable to drink with no signs of the dreaded smoke taint.
Lacks a bit of the tension of the other two vintages but none the less a great wine.

(92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 22 Monate Ausbau in zu 60% neuen Holzfässern, 14.7% Alkohol) Das Jahr war von verehrenden Waldbränden geprägt und die Trauben in den Cabernet Franc Lagen konnten in diesem Jahr nicht für den DVO verwendet werden. In der Nase mit sensationeller Cabernet-Frucht, ergänzt durch Pflaumen, Schwarzkirschen, Leder, Tee sowie Noten von Lebkuchen, ein eher warm anmutendes Bouquet. Im Gaumen ausladend, wiederum warm und reiffruchtig im Charakter, ungemein voluminös, top strukturiert, die Tannine sind hochwertig, die Säure wirkt stimmig, eine anregende Würze schwingt mit. Trotz einer gewissen Hitzigkeit wirkt der Wein nicht schwerfällig, zeigt durchaus Frische und bietet im Abgang eine grosse Länge. 2024 bis 2042+, 95 vvPunkte
