NobleRottersSydney - Grenache Sth Aust (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 14.5%} [DavidM] From vines planted in 1949. Softly earthy nose, red fruit, clean farmyard, lifted spiciness, richness. On the palate the rustic quality is also apparent, with earthiness and a sweet volatile lift dominating red fruit. Pretty high pH I’ll bet! Medium/full body, but with low/medium gritty tannins, not especially oaky, and medium acidity otherwise. Rich and even medium length finish. I thought this the pick of the reds on the night, despite it seeming very advanced for its age. Was relieved to hear it wasn’t the first bottle of a case!

Dark ruby coloured. Aromas of black plum and smoked meats. Body is over medium with a velvet mouth feel, rich red fruits and orange rind fill the mouth and run with immense length. Beautiful now, and a long life ahead of it.

Billiets USA vs AUS Grenaches (Billiet's Bordelo): Soft nose with high-toned raspberry notes. On the palate, silky mouthfeel. Group 3/6, my 3/6.
