  well this was a turn up for the books. I have quite a bit of 69 Penfolds as its my birth year and it is Chaps birthyear as well. so he bought this. it was mid shoulder. I have Grange, St Henri, Bin 2 and bin 128 but never had this Kalimna from 1969. i thought this would be tired and struggling and be no competition for the nights gormandizing frivolities but i could not be more wrong. It was a superb crimson red and immediately put on a display of typical old Penfolds chocolate and panaforte woody nose and similar sweet palate, it was long and beautifully balanced, ETHEREAL i think is in order. I'm convinced as it was one of the last wines consumed that for several hours it sat on the table looking at the super models next to it and decided it was not going to perform like a frumpy old homeless lady, so it mustered up its best efforts to impress us and bestow its virtues on us as being worthy of competing. Just yummy and now i'm on the hunt for good bottles of it. And no need to rush in drinking it. it has a good decade , maybe more to go.
