Hospice du Rhone Seminar 2 - DuMOL and L'Aventure (Paso Robles, California): Barrel sample - deep black violet color; tart black fruit. faintly peppery nose; tight, big and powerful black fruit, tart, mineral palate with good structure and acidity; medium-plus finish 91+ pts. (should age very well; 40% new oak; this mainly went into the Cote a Cote bottling)

Hospice du Rhone; 5/3/2007-5/6/2007 (Paso Robles, CA): Well, unfortunately this wine doesn't really exist. This was a barrel sample, but the rest of the barrel has been blended into the Cote a Cote (or was it the estate cuvee?). Monster nose of barnyard and pure mourvedre. Surprisingly delicate and elegant, but tannic and acidic. Lots of dark, red fruits.
