  • Still nice and fruity, mainly plum. Lots of esters. Medium red color. I bought it for $10, so good QPR. The only complaint I have is that it is fairly sweet, and I prefer dry wines. In any case, tasting this prompted me to buy a case of the 2017 when found for $9.99. I'll let you know later on that one.
It is worthwhile to look up the story on the meaning of "stump jump". Apparently when Australia was settled by Europeans, plowing of fields was impeded by tree stumps, so someone invented a plow that jumped over the stumps. Pretty amazing.

  • Passable daily wine. Not as much fruit as I had expected. Perhaps past its prime.

  • Brought to a friend's place for Christmas gathering.

Very dark purple with notes of plums, dark berries and a very large hint of Indian spices. Some blood, rust and metallic notes as well. On the palate the wine excites the palate with a changing tones every now and then.

This may be an entry level wine from d'Arenberg, but it generates sufficient excitment and buzz to make it a great party wine.

  • A pleasure to drink. Ripe blueberry, raspberry. Spice and a touch of confectionary. Balance excellent. Moderate length. Singing after an hour of air.

  • [This tasting note is for the Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre Stump Jump]

    Clear medium ruby with tears.

Clean, developing nose with a medium intensity. There are distinct aromas of chocolate, black cherry jam, and blackcurrant. Swirling releases subtle wood notes.

The wine is dry with medium acidity, high alcohol, and medium(+) body. The medium(-) level tannins are sandy in nature. The flavours have a medium intensity and follow the nose with black cherry jam, sweet blackcurrant (crème de cassis), and very subtle chocolate and wood. The finish has a medium length.

This is a good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and have a good balance with the acidity. The alcohol is slightly unbalanced; the heat picks-up on the finish and starts to dominate. The oak treatment is well integrated, complementing the flavours. The soft tannins hold on for the finish and capture heat from the alcohol. The wine shows primary and secondary characteristics and has a finish with good length.
