Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 88.6 points

  • Consistent with notes last April, only gaining weight and balancing out into a nicely textured wine. Still linear in fruit delineation and the finish is thick and tannic. Drink 2022 - 2030. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 91.

  • Day 1: Opened and poured in glass and let stand for 45 min. Very light red fruit nose; a bit more red fruit on the taste, but still not much. Tannin makes this very dry. Not much going for it so far. Day 2: Poured and let sit in glass for 45 min: Pretty much the same as Day 1, except tannin could be making this even a bit drier. Maybe someday this could develop into something, but I doubt it and it doesn't seem worth the wait. Many better options at this price point.

  • Drank starting 3 hours after decanting (tasted periodically during the 3 hours and it definitely doesn’t settle until the 3 mark). The wine is medium ruby in color. The nose has Rainier cherries and cranberries with hints of mushrooms. The palate has cranberries and cherries with slight notes of apple and pear. It has a medium body and a medium finish. The tannins, even after 3 hours are still dry and present, although substantially less than earlier. The acid and fruit are in balance. Definitely needs to be paired with food to mask the tannins. At this price point, there are Langhe Nebbiolo wines that are better. Alcohol 14%.

  • Drank after 1-1/2 hours in a decanter. The color is medium crimson with slightly pink edges. The nose has sweet cherries, a bit of orange, and pomegranate. The palate has Rainier cherries, pomegranate, and cranberry with a mineral component that isn’t quite consonant. The tannins are a bit assertive, while the acid is balanced with the fruit. Decent value, but not the easiest Barbaresco to pair with food and not really a stand alone quaff. Alcohol 14%.

  • Took about an hour to open up (did not decant) and was generally still mute on the nose, but it did eventually bring nice black and red fruit with allspice, cloves, bitters, and black tea. The finish is thick with tannins so best with food. Overall this is nicely balanced and should add some fat and complexity in the years ahead. Drink 2020-2030. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 91.
