  • I think the label is cool, very cool. I don't normally buy based on graphics but this one had to be done. It is a bit murky in the glass but shows youth still with a deep ruby color. On the nose I get black plum, black currants, blackberry, blueberry compote, cedar plank, vanilla and coconut. The palate is very tasty- black and blue fruits, toasty oak nuances and well integrated tannins. Low to medium acidity makes for a nice mouthfeel that is medium bodied. Th finish is shortish but chock full of fruit. Shame it doesn't last very long. I like this $20 wine that will drink nicely till 2025 and pair well with Osso Bucco, lamb stew or Steak au Poivre. I am going with 90 points which aligns with the pros, making it a 5 star effort.

  • ≈50 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then closed; NO sediment; Private Preserve after Day 1

N: FRAGRANT blk cherries with notes of choc & hints of pyrazines

P: MF body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it pretty much resolves by the LONG finish with a BITTER/swtness to the firming, dusty tannins. At *least* a bit on the coarse, seemingly unbalanced/disjointed end of the spectrum, but MIGHT a yr or so of cellaring mitigate that, particularly if avail @ a HEAVILY discounted price [such as my apparently no longer available $14.99]? Otherwise, for now & through '23. 14.9% ABV; My VG+/EXC-, but the higher ONLY if found significantly discounted. 90 pts WS & 88 WE (7/1/18) @ $30.
// Day 2: Slightly closed; Body now LM, with the nice, ALMOST swtish frt met by an initially puckerish astringency which DOES pretty much calm down as it evolves into a LONG, ult pleasant finish with hints of anise that helped it go well with the night's revisited Butternut Squash Lasagna (HmMd).
∑: While not a style to which I'd gravitate (even @ $14.99, though POSS *if* my inventory were less), a bit of cellaring MAY make this one > interesting -- particularly IF found with a DEEP discount.

  • Deep, dark garnet in color, slightly opaque in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & spices, minerals, some herbs & oak/vanilla notes. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, herbs, minerals & vanilla/oak. Lingering finish. Readily accessible at present with decanting & extended airing but it has the fruit & structure to develop further with additional aging. A beautiful Cabernet at this price point & an excellent QPR when found at discount.
